If you wanted to drop a section of this pole for any reason, would you then need to purchase an end cap of the correct diameter? Not that i need to - just thought about it today.

Yes you would need to get a correct sized end cap. This would serve two purposes -
1. to protect the expensive carbon ends of section and
2. so that the other sections would stop in the right place and not slide down too far

So, when the extension section come into production, will the end cap need to be removed to fit it?

Yes it will, to do this quickly undo the top clamp and push the cap off by pushing down on the top pole section.
