wfp nightmare
« on: April 17, 2008, 07:50:06 pm »
well i did a house today for the first time with wfp only second job done and can't believe how much there is to plan when setting up.
i thought stupidly that when i began it would be a doddle how wrong was i, it can only get better :( . my main problem seems to be the hose it gets stuck everywhere how do i go about setting it up so as not to keep having to go back all the time as it is stuck. Do i start at the furthest away window and work backward or something different. Also how do you stop the hose getting tangled up on the wheel it took me twenty minutes to unravel today nearly gave up and got the ladders off as the house took 1.5 hours instead of 40 mins when i did it traditional  :o.

help needed lenny.

I usually pull the hose to the furthest point, using the route you are going to take and making sure to be on the right side of lamp post, cars etc. then take the end of the hose back to where you are going to start. This way you don't have to drag too much hose with you with the pole.
Still get caught on tyres sometimes but not as much as I used to.
Stick with it, you're retraining yourself at the moment, six months time you won't look back.(unless your hose is caught up)

I find it depends on my mood. If i'm tired or grumpy then my hose ALWAYS snags on something, or the pole hose catches the end of my pole and tips it out of balance drives me nuts. if i'm happy and jolly the day just runs nice and smooth. Today was unfortunately not one of them - spent most of the day fighting against the wind, tangling my hose, tipping over plant pots, gates slamming shut, water down my leg, spots on windows, standing on my pole hose, cat crap, dog crap glad to get home!

Keep your chin up mate :):) Is this the first time you've used WFP on your round yeh? Well.... dont worry, it WILL get better  :D :D As DJW said, everyone has bad days when your house gets caught round everything... runs through dog poo.... leaks..... but thankfully the more practice you get, the fewer and further between they'll be.

Plan your route round the house.. it is normally best to work from the furthest point back towards the van, this way you can get all your hose problems out of the way in one go. If your hose has to go round a car tyre, unreel as much as you can and put it on YOUR side of the car, then pull your hose to where you want to work and it shouldn't get snagged again, unless you have reeled out too little.

It does get better.... spent my first month struggling with hoses, spotting, runs... everything, but after a couple of months it all settles down and tends to work beautifully :) Saving you time and leg work, and making you extra money.

Just give it time.  I had problems at first too.  It gets a lot easier.  Just think of it as any new learning that you do.  At first you have do concentrate on every little thing to ensure that you gewt it right.  After a while, you can relax more and you find yourself doing things automatically that you once used to think about.  Did things so automatically today, I realised I had forgotten a couple of windows after putting my tools away.  Ho-hum   :)  .  They were ground floor so I used the squeegee on them.

Hope you are using micro or minibore, that is a must.

I always take my hose to the furtherest point.

Bought the slip n slide at windex, will help those obstacles you come accross now and then

Cannot put the website on as cleanitup seems to be blocking it, there is a link on Jouk's site

I got in lots of tangles too. You mean on the reel as much as anything don't you? This is mostly when you try and rush. Reel in slowly untill you are more confident. There are only two basic rules.
1. Attach the hose tap to yourself and walk away from the van with it fixed to you.

2. Walk back to the van with the hose tap and pole before winding the hose in.

Tricloflex is an excellent hose bit heavier than others but a really good hose.
