microfibre vs scrim
« on: January 29, 2005, 03:53:28 pm »
I posted a thread several months ago as a new starter ("Tales to Tell")
well, i`m still here with first real cold spell behind me and the bills were paid !!
My round is a good earner due to me being consistent with my pricing in Liverpool where people visibly go pale when I quote £6.50 for a semi. (Extra for extra glass of course)
At first, I was anxious to build a round and took on some undesirable cleans ie: half a mile between houses in the same area- ladders on car/ladders off- georgian windows etc.
Now I am able to concentrate my work on the long roads prepared to pay and I have to offload the little ones which are too costly in time.
Anyway, things are looking good and I am seriosly considering taking someone on as I can not increase my earnings on my own.
Any advice on this appreciated.
I am also a microfibre cloth user and have recently been experimenting with scrim. After boiling and softening up etc, I find a strange white powder substance is left on the glass...no idea what it is but uts a pain as I have to go over the glass with microfibre to polish the dust off. I have a feeling it may be due to the applicator drying out and some element of the soap (squeegee off) drying on the glass.
What do you think?
By the way, I cannot begin to thank you all for continuing to inspire and enthuse me when its drizzling out the bedroom window and I know its going to be a tough day out there. 10 minutes on this site and I am raring to go.
Cheers a million.

hi there,

we use micro fibre clothes, for lots of different tasks, cleaning windows, frames, bathrooms, kitchens, woodwork, metal work.

the whole lot, brilliant, i bought some of the larger ones for one of my vehicles, they sat in the van for weeks, until they ran out wypall, and hey presto " those microfibre cloths are brilliant" and they even take them home to wash at the weekend.  perhaps they do listen after all

have a great weekend.

regards

martin

I use a chamois on the glass and microfibre for everything else unless it's something like real filthy frames and then I use old scrims first.

I changed over to microfibre as well before I got the pole....was really good, though at that time the only ones I could source were the small domestic type....would have been nice to get them the size of scrims...or even half that....ah well, all water under the bridge now, so to speak.

I still prefer the scrim.
