Wet blasting?
« on: March 26, 2008, 09:30:49 pm »
A couple of regulars might remember me posting about some stone new builds a week or so ago, well my test patch was fine but they have decided that as the pointing on some of the houses isnt the best It would benifit from some more abrasive cleaning along the the mortar.

The idea is that a wet sand blast type thing might tidy up the pointing. I personally think it looks fine, but who am i to argue!

So anyone done anything like this before and know any suppliers etc?

cheers

Hi Steve

Wetblasting is more likely to remove the pointing than tidy it up as the pressure required for the kit to work properly is quite high.

If the NHBC catches them blasting the pointing or even specifically pressure washing it then they could be in for a bit of bother too.
I got kicked off a site last year by the NHBC guy for brick cleaning with a pressure washer, I had to call NHBC head office and get all sorts of agreements signed before they would let me back on... lost 2 days work because of the idiot overseeing that site, but that is the kind of power they have so be careful mate.

will look into both of those keith and rob, cheers.

Andy cheers for the nhbc heads up, not heard that one before but good to know, do you think that safe efflorescence spray (cant remember the name off the top of my head, from the blue booklet) you use would soften the edges up?

Could do the job matey... would do a test on an inconspicuous spot of brick first though if I were you.

The stuff is Brickleen and made by Forwared Chemicals.
