well i have just flooded the garage again! actually i have only done this three or four times in the last couple of years, but it is still a nightmare when it happens! i always set a timer when i turn ro on but when it buzzes i get into the habit of thinking "i'll just give it a few more minutes'. then 5 1/2 hours later!!!!! i remember its on, as i did today!!!! what i am wanting to know is wether it can do any damage to the Ro? When the tank in garage is full there is a gap in the lid for the water to overflow, all over the garage floor. is it possible for the water to back flow into the RO and cause any damage? its a 4040 RO. also all the covering( old blankets and sleeping bag) on the ro is now soaked, and its getting pretty cold down here tonight, hoping it wont freeze up!!

RO will be under pressure so it will not backflow if water is going through it so dont worry about that, can you not get a timer switch/ float switch to cut the water off instead of trying to remember to turn it off ?
I have one on my van mount saves loads of hassle.

OR,
Drill a hole in the side of the tank as near to the top as possible.
Insert and seal some hose pipe in.
Run this hose either (1) out of the garage or (2) into a 25L bottle
This way you should avoid flooding the garage/shed out.
Ok you may over produce but you won't flood the place.

Thanks for that idea Neil. I was wondering how to get past that problem and was contemplating setting up something like the ball valve system from a toilet cistern, but the simplest ideas are often the best. So a hole in the tank it is with a bit of pipe to out side garage. thaks again. Syd

  My feeder pipe to the tank in my van came out last night when I closed the back door, RO on all night producing straight into the back of my van - second time I have done that in a fortnight.

thanks guys , i like the hole in the top of tank with hose going off to drain idea. fortunately the garage floor is slightly uneven so the water all collects to one side. it didnt manage to get to my carpet cleaning gear but my backpack was sitting in a nice puddle !! it semmed to be working ok but hopoing no damage has been done! the bottom of the backpack where the on / off button is seems quite enclosed. has anyone else got this wet? was it ok?

I've drilled a hole in my tank lid and have fitted a male hoselock connector to it, then connected a female to the feed pipe it saves opening the lid and keeps any dust out.
