How high can you pressure wash?
« on: March 01, 2008, 04:55:18 pm »
Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of jet washing tall buildings?

The highest we've gone so far with our pressure washer on the floor is about four or five floors, any higher and we have to run the unit from the roof and drop the lance down the building because the pressure drops so much.

We've got a twelve storey building to do soon and wondered what others do to get round this pressure problem. We'll be using cherry pickers.

Cheers,

Huw.

Our current pressure washer is 3,000 psi on 13ltrs a minute I think, have looked into the dynojet series of trailers but starting at £17,000, it's a big jump.

Why not use an electric preasure washer and have it in the cage with you and run the power lead/hose down from there....?

Or would that be breaking Health and Safety regs....?

Because you'd have to have pw and water butt in cherry picker with you, far too much weight. Cherry picker alarms would stop it extending, plus there wouldn't be enough room in the basket anyway.

hi seerclean
we have used our machine upto 11 storeys about 100ft with little pressure loss it is the lavor thermic 17 it is a hotwash and runs upto 3000psi at 20 litres a minute it cost about £7000 so a big saving on £17000.

just a tip when in a cherrypicker this high pressure washing the hose itself can weigh a fair bit so make sure it is fastened to the cage with enough spare line left to work with.

Hi,

Yeah, I know what you mean about the weight of the hose, we found that out pretty quickly on our first job working at height! Is the Lavor thermic 17 comparable to the karcher hds 1000 de? We looked at the karcher last year.

Cheers,

no it is a far better machine you can run it at various pressures from between 400psi upto 3000psi it runs at 21 litres a minute but this also can be adjusted, we have had ours for nearly 3 years now and not had any problems i would highly recomend the machine.

I was thinking more of pumping the water up to the preasure washer so all you have in the cage was the washer itself. An electric washer doesn't weigh that much. The water pipe might..... Just an idea....

hi there,

we bring a hot trailer mounted bit of kit and run 100metres from it, max pressure 350 bar.

going high we would want to try and support the hp line from the roofline and then run it back down to the cradle.

any questions get in touch

regards

martin

hi martin,

What sort of trailer model is it? I've been looking at the dynajet ones which are 350 bar. Feel free to email details to huw@seerclean.com

hi there

tensid 302 or 352, the hot trailer mount, that has a 700 ltr tank.

350 bar machine, we have run 100 metres from these, no problems at all.

my concern at twelve stories, is hose weight, i would pivot it from the roof, into the cradle.

If you use an 18hp Honda belt drive with the right pump
suggestion a General 2021B it produces 5.5GPM @ 3500PSI
going up 12 stories you will hardly notice any pressure drop.
If you go to a 20hp Honda with the right pump you can go up another 2-3 stories with hardly any pressure drop. You will need
about 250' - 300' of hose.
Hope this helps.

Hal, do you quote flow in us gals or british gals or maybe because we're metric over here in litres/min, hose lengths in metres and weights in Kg, Threads in US are NPT not BSP ? Why do you push Honda engines and not American Kohlers or the like ? I have a command 18 on my jetter and would rank it over a honda

A Kohler engine is probably the best engine made for
pressure washers. The problem is they are more costly
and not as popular with the general public. The Honda
engine is a very good product and it has name recognition everyone has heard of it and they have a very good warranty policy and stand behind there product.

I quote flow in US gallons
