Pollution on bricks
« on: March 03, 2008, 05:47:49 pm »
Hi

I have been asked to clean some brickwork which has years of pollution on it.  I will try steaming it, but if there is a chemical I can prespray it with to help that would be great... any ideas folks please?
About (100 square metres to clean so could do with it being able to be sprayed rather than brushed on, although if needs be, then it can be done).
Also, if there is a chemical that would do it without the need for steaming then that would be even better.

Thanks

Andy

Hi

Not sure, that's the problem, I'm going in a bit blind.  I don't have the time to go and survey the site and the customer cannot give me any detailed information but they need it doing next week.

I need to go armed with enough chemicals etc to make sure I can do the job there and then.

Any help would be appreciated.

Andy,
Going in blind is not the best way, but if it is only atomspheric, carbon stainging/dirt etc then you could try Tensid's HD restoration cleaner or safety clean. Give them a call speak to Richard Turk and he will be able to help you.

Hi

Thanks for that, I will call them tomorrow.
I appreciate going in blind is not good and normally I would insist on a site visit and test area being done, but unfortunately this situation doesn't allow that luxury.

Thanks again

The HD is very good, just follow the MSDS sheets as it can be a nasty chemical.

make sure you have gloves and a face mask when you apply it as it can cause really bad skin burns , even when powerwashing of and is diluted it still burns so be very carefull and make sure area is cordoned off.
 good luck
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt

All good advice, thank you gentlemen.

I have all the gear for applying brick acid so should be OK.

Thanks again
