Very grey /black white Sheepskin Rug
« on: February 10, 2008, 09:08:56 am »
How would you clean a very grey / black white sheepshin rug.

This rug is full of Dog oils etc

In the past customer has used washing powder and hosepipe  no improvement

Ant ideas never had one this dirty will be doing it off site

Is it possible for wool to loose its natural colour and turn grey with abuse etc

vac, vac, vac, and vac again both sides,
Then maybe pure clean or pre spray  gold with hot water, plenty of agitation and 20 mins dwell then extract with fabric and fibre rinse hot solution may need 2 or 3 cleans failing this maybe someting more aggressive like multi pro, make sure its rinsed out properly though.

if he's used washing powder & hose pipe then  I'd take it to the laundrette and stick it in the 'family wash' big machine and give it a good wash.

I've always taken lightly soiled sheep skin rugs t the dry cleaners, I was told that over wetting the skin on the back would cause it to go stiff

When i used to work for someone else we dry cleaned them, if you think about it all of that dry cleaning solvent will really cut through the grease.

Ive got some degrease stuff I got from Woodbridge

Perhaps brush that in  and extract out a couple of times?.

Its a big one I think if I took it to my mates dry cleaner he would then phone me up and say he has a rug that need cleaning as it is too  big for his machine

Ian

Put it in the washing machine at 40 degrees and add conditioner, it will come up like new.

I used to get a brush the one I used looked like a paint roller and had spikes/needs coming from it and I brushed the wool the rug looked fantastic after getting knots out of it.
