Cleaning prices

I called a local carpet cleaner today and asked for a price to clean a lounge carpet, he said it would be £4.50 sqm  is that the average people charge. Im in the south east of england.

No such thing as average when it comes to cleaning carpets, you might find half a dozen variables used to determine charges.

You can get new carpets for £2 a metre, if you clean the cheap end of carpets usually you get the cheap end of customers.

Cleaning is based on what there is to do and how much they want to keep it, also how much would underlay and gripper and fitting be?

There's a bigger picture.

It depends on what type of cleaning you require.

If you only want someone to come in a go over the carpet once, without pre-treating it for stains-spots-odours etc and your carpet cost £3.00 to £9.99 psm,then £4.50 psm is expensive.

However if you carpet cost more and you also want a "Proffesional Clean" then maybe the price is ok.
