another funny story from today
« on: December 03, 2007, 09:32:37 pm »
i know i had 1 last week, but here is another ;) it made me laugh

just to set the scene, im a helpfull bloke, i will help others, its what i do, its how ive allways been and i would like to stay that way

anyways, last year a local window cleaner bumped into me and we got chatting, he was still on ladders, i showed him my setup and he was impressed, i did 2 houses in the time he took to do 1, they were similar sizes ( i will be honest, i did crank it up a little just to show-off a little ;) ), i offer to help him build a system, i point him the direction of the DIY site and tell him i will help him out if he gives me a bell

a few weeks ago, i saw him drive past in a "wrapped van", its not a new van, but having a wrap still looks nice ( not my cuppa tea, but hey ho ), the wrap looked like it was well done, a few logo's on it inc the thermopure logo

so today he is in the same road as me, i walk down to speak to him as he gets out of his van and he is a bit "off-ish" , strange i thought, so i carry on chatting and he comes out with

" you lot give us window cleaners a bad name "

i reply " us lot " ?? ? ?

Yes he says, you lot who build your own systems

i laugh as i thought he was having a joke

he says " and mine does a better job as its built by a specialist firm "

" aye right " i say , as i thought " sod it " and started to walk away

i just assumed he had been sold this idea  the salesman of the thermopure system,

i get my cart out of the van and turn to have a look on how he copes with the hose

what pops out of the van

a pure freedon trolley

Now i know that the freedom trolley works well enough, andrew has sold enough of them, but lets face facts, its really just a " redesigned sack truck "

i laughed to myself ;)

oh and then i watched him hump around what looked like a very heavy GF pole, whilst i threw around my fishing pole ;)

a wrapped van is where instead of having just got the van sign written the whole van is wrapped in nylon graphics, very expensive.

anyways matt he clearly has no clue what he is talking about, my system is a pro built system (JM123) and while it has never failed me once (got it nearly 3 years) I wouldn't say it does any better a job than a diy effort, at the end of the day pure water is pure water ain't it?

the bit that always get me when I see a van with a brand name system fitted is that they advertise the brand name more than their own business half the time!!

There's a wc'ing company in Denistoun (i think) that has the side of the van covered with a big brand name (ok its Ionics) and then on the back door in small writing is their own company name - doesn't make sense.

no moral, i just found it funny

some sales rep has got hold of him ;D

indeed, but i dont think it would have been andrew, so a salesman got it into this guys head that he needed to buy a system instead of build it, he then went and brought of andrew, this made me laugh aswell

nothing at all, the funny thing to be was, he was all "high and mighty" after speaking to a salesperson , has the thermopure sign on his van and then pulls out a freedom trolley ( which is a redesigned sack truck, whatever way you look at it )

Yes, I can see the irony in that. It is quite funny.

When I first started I spent hours poreing over your site ( the one where you explain the DIY of water fed pole). I'm not that practical but did understand I needed to purify the water, then a tank, then a pump, then a di, then a reel, then a pole.

I got the bits off a supplier for about £1100, so you probably
a. gave me the courage to know that this would work
b. saved me about a grand

I do feel though that times have changed, even in the short time I have been involved. Saving money on eqiupment is now less of an issue, so to a degree I am siding with  him.

A 17'xtel is not expensive and I could never hope to biuld anything as good. So for me the direction of DIY would have to be more pragmatic and not about photo's of broom handles, magnetic stick on signs, ups only, or anything else that announced loudly amateur.

I think it's up to the individual. I like to cherry pick good ideas from all you guys. I must admit the diy trolley is very good and well worth the effort but I went and bought a good pole to go with it. ;)
Just like that
