advice on installing a booster pump?
« on: November 15, 2007, 08:37:03 pm »
Just bought the booster pump pictured below, just wondering where you situate it? is it between the mains water and pre filters/RO?

also it says it has a 1 inch outlet so what pipe and connections would i need for the input and output?

any help would be lovely please

I have mine before my pre Filters. I have experimented with putting it after the pre filters but found it not as effecient.

I run an 1/2" hose from my outside tap to the pump. You can buy adapters that fit into the 1" thread on the pump that have a reducer to an 1/2" hose.

If you run a 1" hose to your pump you will get higher pressure and a higher flow rate then  an 1,2" hose.

JM123,

I dont know what pressure I have, as my connectors to my RO are all metric and all the pressure gauges you can buy work only with imperial fittings.

Its no loss not having a pressure gauge as the only way to boost my pressure is to move up to a 1" supply hose instead of 1/2" hose.

But seeing as my RO takes my present tap water at 116 TDS down to 0 TDS and it produces one Litre of pure water every 15 seconds,I will keep my 1/2" supply hose.

My normall tap pressure is between 30- 35psi without the pump.

My flow rate through my 1/2" hose without pump is 7 ltrs a min from tap. With pump flow rate is 13 ltrsa min. My Ro system is set on permment flush to boost the longetivity of my membrane which was Bought from RO Man 6 months ago for £185.00, the short leaf membrane.

Its a 40 40 ro system that I bought from facelift with my van set up.Facelift use an Osmonics memmbrane from Gaps water, but this lasted me about 17 months before I replaced it with the Ro man membrane. ( Its short life was partly my own Fault)

I now use far better quality pre filters and monitor how much water goes through the system before I change them. Approx 10 to 13 weeks on average.
