I just had this quote through today, you get a litle discount if your a member of the fwc, though I don't know how much.
Dear Jeff,
Following your recent website enquiry, I can now confirm the quotations we can offer you as a Window Cleaning Contractor
We would recommend that you take the Comprehensive policy as described below as this has been developed in conjunction with the Federation of Window Cleaners to provide you with the best and most comprehensive cover in the market for the work you carry out.
You cannot obtain this level of cover anywhere else at this present time for the premium shown.
Comprehensive Quote
Premium = £ 262.50 (inclusive of £ 12.50 IPT)
Cover: Public Liability only with a limit of indemnity £1,000,000
Cover under this policy automatically includes:
◙ damage to property being worked upon (scratched glass etc)
◙ unlimited height allowance
◙ treatment risks (damage to carpets/upholstery etc)
◙ Losses arising from Loss or Theft of Keys including consequential losses arising therefrom
◙ £1000 all risks cover for tools/equipment
The insurers are Royal & Sun Alliance and the excess is £250 for third party property damage and £50 for damage to tools and equipment
There are standard Public Liability policies that are much cheaper than the above quotation, one of which is provided below from Fortis Insurance, but they have numerous exclusions and restrictions. They also do not cover scratching of glass or anything else that you are actually working on which we feel does not give you the adequate cover. As brokers to the Federation of Window Cleaners we do not recommend that you proceed on the standard basis for these reasons.
Standard Quote
Premium = £ 67.83 (inclusive of £ 3.23 Insurance Premium Tax)
Cover: Public Liability only with a limit of indemnity £1,000,000
The standard exclusions to this policy are:
Exclusion relating to Terrorism and Asbestos
Excludes the application of heat
Excludes damage to property being worked upon
A height restriction of 15m and work is restricted to private dwellings, shops, schools, offices, pubs or hotels.
Excludes the use of cradles or harnesses
Excludes erection or dismantling of scaffolding
Excludes special remedial services
Excludes the resetting of alarms
For internal work there is 4m height limit from the floor below.
The excess is £100 for third party property damage increased to £350 if less than 2 years experience in trade.
These policies do not include any cover for Employers Liability and if you do employ anyone or use any labour only subcontractors other than close family then a totally different policy will be required and the premiums will increase significantly in this regard. The minimum premiums to include the Employers Liability cover start at £625.00.
The standard policy does not include any cover for your tools and equipment, but we can offer you a separate quotation for these on an “all risks” cover basis which covers them in the event of theft, loss or damage. The excess is £50 and the premium would be £77.50 for £6,000 of cover, £130.00 for £10,000 of cover or £182.50 for £15,000 of cover. This policy can also be taken out in addition to the comprehensive liability policy if the automatic cover of £1,000 is not enough.
You may also be aware that we offer a Personal Accident &/or Sickness scheme and the details of the Quotations we can offer you are:
Personal Accident Only: £ 31.50 inc IPT
Personal Accident and Sickness £157.50 inc IPT
These quotes provide
◙ £20,000 Death/Capital Benefits and
◙ a weekly payment of £175 or 80% of your gross weekly wage which ever is the lower.
◙ 24 hour cover
◙ Benefits paid for 52 weeks excluding the first 2 weeks of any claim.
◙ Excludes pre-existing medical conditions
