Hi all.
I know its been asked before but I need a new van. My courier van only just scraped through its mot, its done me well for 2 years now costing me £800. But now I have an established round I need a bigger tank than a 250 ltr.
So I'm in 2 minds as whether to get a decent second hand one or bite the bullet and go down the lease to buy route, how many of you do the latter?
I need a 3 seater, and room/payload for a 650 ltr tank, the more car sized it is the better as street parking is tight where I live.
What makes/ models can anyone suggest and any good recommended firms to buy from?
Going for a new van would be a big step up for me, one I'm willing to invest in, but still abit worried at the financial commitment and so want to make a well informed descision before taking the plunge. So any advice would be very welcome.

Dont go down the lease buy route, the rates are extortionate( think the spellings right). go for decent second hand or even new, there are some brilliant pre-reg deals at the moment

Go Scudo (3 seats) - as new as you can afford - lease purchase is ok too but work out what you pay back and the tax angle too.

I got a new Doblo (2 seats) from vansdirect this time last year (after driving sheds for years) - new lease of:-

Down payment £537 (3 months rental) £179 pcm x 47 months and a balloon payment at the end of £2000 which is usually a bit less than the price you get for a 4yr old van.

All chargeable to tax.

so many vans what to do .mac (g)old  doblo was the one i v been intrested in .is urs the 13.00 cc engine .n what tank fits inside .ok . then he goes n put a good word in for the scudo three seater . anoter one i was intrested in .i just think my brain has exploded . i must decide by saturday .because im off down vans direct to check out the vans do anyone know what tank .( wfp) can be put in doblo or new scudo . basic models

Just a wee warning
Vansdirect, motorpoint & other on-line van dealers.
Some of the "cracking" deals you see on their websites are NOT UK MODELS.
Now this is not always too big a deal but for instance- the doblo's are irish imports & thus only carry a 2 year warranty ( 3 year for uk models ) & the spec's differ from uk models.
So if you go down this route be very sure what you are paying for & always ask if it is a uk model. motorpint never offered me this info when i enquired i found out from a friend, only when i phoned the salesman back up to check did he then inform me of the "import status" with cut down warranty & lower spec'

this doesn't mean it's a defo bad thing, just got to weigh up the saving against warranty, resale value etc.

I think I'm going to go for a decent second hand van. Been looking at a scudo or despatch, but now I've just seen a mercedes vito for sale near me. Bearing in mind I have little interest in cars and until now even less with vans, would you recommend them? the merc that is.

i disagree with this, ive always bought second hand and every one fails me repeatedly  resulting in days of work so in the long run a brand new van will save you money and stress. i drive a ford transit connect leased back in 05 and its superb and never failed me. If you shop around you can get cracking deals which will be money well spent in the long run. Better for tax purposes too. Buying a van brand new outright, i wouldnt do it, its still hassle as it ages and then selling it. lease it then return it after 3 yrs and get another brand new, best way by far. Peace of mind!

Hi we are looking at selling our movano.


this van is already to go to work and has been used by us for WFP for two yrs we have a 1000 ltr tank inside (baffled) we are looking to go smaller as i need to insure a young driver.

It's down to the payload, standard kangoo/berlingo/expert (dont know about connect) are 600kg approx.
However, all these models are available with a higher payload of 800kg approx.
The doblo standard payload is 740kg approx & is available with a higher one too.

So, if you intend to fit a 400ltr tank, that will be 400kg in weight when full. then you have to add you're own weight, any passengers & everything else you intend to carry in or on top of the van.
I would personaly advise the higher payload model of any of the above vans, especially if buying new, although the doblo i think would be fine at 740kg.

1800 is a ok buy

ive been watching vans on ebay for a few weeks, they do for a little less that the 1800- though, ive just seen 1 got last week for 1200 and it was also a r plate

please, dont buy from ebay unless you,ve been and had a test drive first. If youre going to lease, why not buy, they all go through the same status checks, and that way youll have more than an empty drive to show for four years payments. If you buy second hand spend as much as you can and try and get from a dealer, that way you canpush for some sort of warrenty and if theres any comebacks your not left out in the oppen.

at the end of the day its your choice. Ive had brand new vans that have ended up as pups and second hand vans that have done 120,000 with no problem

the orange transit van in my pics has done 120,000 & came with 3 mnths warrenty, my renault traffic was new £20,000

imho no difference between ebay or local car sales

we had a Vectra a few years back, brought from a local forecort, had 12 months warrenty on, Full service hostory and was mint, 13 months after we had it, the Engine management light came on and the car would die of all power whilst driving ( inc power steering ) , on the computer it goes, air con sensor, 200 quid saw it changed

a few more weeks the same thing happened, car cuts out, no power, back on computer, the timing sensor had gone, another 200 quid ( well just under ) and it stops

a few more weeks, car cuts out, its the engine managment thats not working, price to have it sorted £1100

so we have the warning light put out and part ex it against a nice VW golf

ive brought cars from ebay aswell and they have been great

its just the luck of the draw
