Residential Pole system n van setup...advice please!
« on: October 29, 2004, 11:25:41 pm »
hi!

I'm looking to get into a pole system and am considering buying a 1000L R/O setup to keep at home, and then have a tank in my car with poles, etc.

just wondering if any one can give me rough price guides and also roughly how long 100L of water will last.  I don't mind having to come home at lunch to fill the car tank back up, just a little confused over it all...too many different tanks n all that!

Any help would be great,

Thanks,

Can't help with tanks, but 100lts will not last very long, espesially on first cleans.
These typically take 25 - 30lts water per house to get them right first time, after that you should be able to get away with using less but 100lts still isn't going to last you untill dinnertime.

i apriciate that 100L won't last long, just wanted a rough idea of long it'd last n then work out how bigger tank i'll need in my vehicle.

would i be right in thinking that after a first time clean the windows may not need as much water ass they do first time round, because the pumps generally are designed to pump the water 60 foot in the air up a pole and still have enough pressure to clean the windows right?....well if you're on average cleaning around 12-18 foot, will you need that much pressure?  I know of a few people who use a regulator you see!

anyway, please keep the comments coming,

Thanks

Carrying water:
You could carry 4 25litre containers in your van/boot, and they only cost about £10 each.  Hurts your back lifting them in and out a bit.

A 1000 litre static water tank to put in the garage costs around £150+vat

Poles vary according to what you get.  An average 18ft Fibre glass pole (which will reach almost all 2nd floors) costs around £120.  A 30 ft (which will reach almost all 3rd floors) costs around £150

RO units:  Vary greatly according to output.  A good pump assisted 300gpd system which will be more than adequate for what you're talking about costs about £580.

The amount of water used varies a bit too.  I average about 10-15 litres per house, and dont use more than 200-250 litres per day.  Its a little bit personal preference though, some people like to use a lot, some less.  On first cleans, like Dennis says, you use more.  It is important to be able to vary the flow, whatever system you get.
