I found leafleting an area, then going back a week later to the same houses doorknocking worked well.  They had either not had time to ring, or had lost the leaflet or whatever.

leaflets are a waste of time if you don't follow up, door knock face to face works best everytime

Same as that Jay, found door knocking by far the best way forward.

Definitely leaflet then door knock.

Although it's more time consuming than pure doorknocking, it has a number of advantages. Some customers will ring on the strength of the leaflet alone, and those that don't will at least be 'warm' when you canvas them.

Also, it certainly makes me less nervous about doorknocking, as your spiel is really to the point 'Hi, I dropped this leaflet off in the week and just wanted to see if you'd like to have your windows cleaned'

From experience, face to face with your potential customer will grow your business quicker and more effectively than some may realise.
