it would be ok to do that but with your tds that high on your tap water your resin wouldnt last too long, of course if your running the van part time you may feel that its worth going through the extra resin

look on ebay for a second had system or an RO unit, di at the tds that high will only last about 500l so would work for now but will cost you quite a bit a money till you get an RO, you could always turn you RO you have to produst more water will mean you use more resin but still will save you money compared to going straight the DI only.

Its Amazing what you learn on here  ;D

Hi Busted,

Whats your set up, do you have van mount or static?
What RO are you using?
How much extra water per day do you think you need?

Regards

Probably a bad idea with such a high TDS.  If you do it that way though, use two DI vessels as your resin will go further.  When the resin in the first bottle starts to show a TDS reading, connect up the second one behind it.  When the resin in ottle one gets somewhere near the tap TDS, change the resin.  Then use bottle two (which hopefully will be 000 still) as the first in line.  I'm having to work like this at the moment as my RO is stuffed and my tap water is about 250.  I wouldn't want to work like this all the time but it's OK as a short term stopgap.  It that or not working at all or having to travel miles to buy the water.  With the time off, the cost of buying the purified water, and the general running around, it's not much dearer making my own with just resin.

if that ro is a booster pumped version you will be able to produce 1000 litres an 24 hours. You just need a bigger holding tank then. Problem solved.

have you got a booster pump for your ro?
mine makes 220 litres in 4 1/2 hours with the booster pump. Without the booster it takes 8 hours.

With a tap tds that high could you harvest rain water for the spare van and just run thru the DI to polish

yes i think so. A merlin can produce alot of water quickly as well. But i don't know any details of RO's bigger than mine cos i'm still well within the capabilities of my 300gpd ro.
You'll need to look at the specs on ro-man or somewhere for exact details.

You could always run it through 2-3 vessels in van,it would make your resin last longer.

how much is your ro producing?
You should still be capable of producing 3000 litres of pure water over 5 days even without the pump.
If you can't it sounds like there is something wrong.

i think i paid about £260 for the pumped version 18 months ago. Am not sure as i got a 2 man diy package from gardiners but upgraded a few items to suit.
