look at the thread titled 'Unbelievable - warning' by LWC. Sounds like there is a bit of a scam going on.

Thanks for all of your replies.

I should have done a search through the forum before posting, but hopefully it may help others by bringing it to everyone's attention again.

Steve ;)

Hi

I have read this and the other thread and I believe nobody has hit on what is happening. I sell alot on eBay and see this quite a bit. It isn't about trying to get your prices, they have absolutley no interest in your prices and have no intention of working for a living.

What will happen is that say you give a price of £40.00, they will send a (fake) international draft for £500 and tell you to bank it and send them the £460 back to them wherever in the world they are by Western Union, bank transfer or something similarly untraceable. They don't just want your sort code and account number, there is nothing they can do with that and those details are on every cheque you write anyway.

The scam works because the draft is international and will take weeks to bounce back from the country and bank it was supposed to be drawn on. The unsuspecting victim will think it has cleared weeks ago and will send the cash, then the original payment bounces. Thats why he wants to pay while he is away and before you do the job.

Sorry, poor link provided. You are looking for 'Fake checks and check cashing scams' on that page, it will explain what is happening.

Little tip for anyone that does not know about online scams.

1, paypal: never ever login to paypal from an email always type in www.paypal.com

2, natwest, LloydsTSB, and any other bank will never send an email to you asking for you to sign it or modify details again never click from an email.

3, do not pay with western union as you have no protection.

4, never accept more money from some ever than post it back to them (this is dodgy and can be classed as money laundering and is fishy to say the least

5 a latest one is people asking for you to clean theirs mums windows and they are away on business etc, I reply call me when your back or get your mum to call me.

If anyone can add anymore please do they are thwe ones that came straight into my head.
