NEED BUSINESS ACCOUNT New
« on: August 06, 2007, 05:11:53 pm »
HI EVERYONE

HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP ME  PLEASE

I have a brick cleaning business and I am a sole trader.
My ex had the business account in her name but she,s gone off and left me with no account to pay my cheques into. I have poor credit history but need a business account. Does anyone know of a bank that may help me?

Also I have been told I can use my personal account but need to change the account to my name t/a my business name then cheques can be paid to either myself or my business name. Is this true as I have spoke to my persanol bank and they say I can't.

If you can show that you have a healthy business then I don't think you will have a problem opening a business account with any high street bank.

They will be happy to take your money.

HSBC offer free banking for a period of time but not sure how long.
I have a contact with my local business manager at HSBC if you need some advice from someone.

Let me know and I will pass his details to you.

I use Abbey , free online banking, pay money/ cheques  into hole in the wall any time . Only downside is they dont do anything from there branch , all transactions are through the hole in the wall or over the phone . (they do call you though )

Thanks all

But what about my poor credit history and what other options do I have if no one will give me a business bank account.
The reason it was in my ex's name in the first place is because I was refused by abbey for bad credit 5 years ago and I really don't think its improved much since then.

regards

If you can show them that you have X ammount to pay into there bank each week / month I think they might change there mind. After all they want to make money

I have 2 personal bank accounts one being halifax and one being lloyds tsb, the business account that my ex opened was also lloyds and to be honest I think lloyds are ridiculous with bank charges so I rang halifax to see if I could use that account for business in my name t/a my business name and they said they can't do that. But I read somewhere in this forum that you can and the banks try to bully you. What is the reality of this I would appreciate it if someone has the answer.

I went with Barclays bank and I'm sure they didn't even do a credit check on me?

What did you have to present to them in order to get the account opened, I have my cis 4 stating my name and who I'm tading as along with a £2000 grand cheque from a job I did last week

Hi

Why do you belive you need a business account? Also why do you want your business name or t/a on the account? I too am a sole-trader and i dont have a business account, more to the point i dont want one. I dont need the facilities it offers, and i dont want to pay for banking. I just need somewhere to put the cheques (cash i keep hold of, and by that i don mean its not on the books, i mean i just hold onto it to pay for consumables and petrol etc).

I use my own personal bank account (always have done) and even with a poor credit history you should be able to open a very basic personal account. There is nothing to stop you using a personal account EXCEPT that the bank may get a bit snotty and try to upgrade you to a business account as they can charge you for what they do if its a business account.

As for cheques made out to the business name, why does this happen? On my invoices it tells the client to make the cheque out to me personally. In addition, a lot of people pay via internet banking.

Hope this helps

Stephen
