More Leaflets
« on: October 09, 2004, 05:41:15 pm »
Hi guys

I have been a carpet cleaner fo 15 years and my main form of advertising  is Leaflets through the doors, and I do it myself and always put prices on it, and even up to now I am not sure if it is a good idea.

Dave,
I have been going 10 years longer than you. I have never liked leaflets with prices on them. If you are going to put prices on a leaflet then obviously they have to be low prices, otherwise you wouldnt get any calls. The majority of potential clients that respond to this type of leaflet are the price shoppers. These clients are not the type that I personally am after. The clients that I am after would put that type of leaflet in the bin, because of the low pricing alone.
Your prices are roughly half that of mine, and mine are half that of some other operators. I would say depending on your equipment set up, and more importantly, if you are doing your best to carry out a true professional job, then you need to increase your prices dramatically, to get more out of the job for yourself as well as to convey the right image to the right people.
As regards the rest of your leaflet, in my opinion, for what its worth - I dont like the line that refers to the fact that You always send out a trained operator.
I think it would be better to say simply "Fully trained (or Experienced) operator."
The way you have put it, for some reason creates a negative feel about it, to me.
Thats my thoughts anyway, best of luck.
Dave.

Len,
On his home page - along the top boxes, last one (contact us) .
When this comes up in blue along the bottom just above the telephone number - download Leaflet.
I dont have any red boxes appearing, XP home edition.
Hope this helps.
Dave.
PS. Sometimes red boxes appear because of a firewall problem.

Your prices in my opinion are far too low.

Every price you advertise says "from", this to me means nothing, I would imagine this could put customers off, it would me.

Why dont you try without prices.

Cant understand why your prices are so low after 15 years, how small must a H/S/L be to charge only £25.00.

I agree with the "from" bit. Once you put "From £10 " you find it hard to ever get above it. Nobody ever wants to pay more than £10.

I think that you are in general undervaluing yourself and will be attracting price shoppers. I would suggest you try phasing out all prices and try to do it all on visit. It means you do a lot more calls but you should earn more.

I also think that your prices are to low, you seen to be working at the rate of £15.00 per hour which I was doing 20 years ago.

How many jobs do you get per 1000 leaflets?

Have you tried a leaflet without the prices? and if so what was the total jobs per 1000 leaflets, did this produce?

I agree way too cheap, providing your working to a high quality as i'm sure you are, try doubling your prices.
While discussing leaflets what prices would you chaps expect to pay per 1000 or 5000 prints on A5 with say 3 colours??

I'm amazed by your prices :o looking at your leaflet & excellent website you appear to be a very professional company, you deserve more than you are charging.

If i was using your leaflet as it is i would include this line:

"for our budget conscious customers we offer a basic cleaning package that starts from £10 a room"

this would be no vacuuming, or furniture moving just a good clean over the traffic lane areas, this would allow you to upsell your cleaning and increase the total job price.

Stimvak Operators Association? ???

Also noted special discount for quantity, you will go even lower? Just an observation. ::)

Though I don’t put prices on leaflets but do receive them never seen HSL £24.99 Lounge £14.99 or rug (silk ;D) £9.99 but if you go into a shop it always less than a whole figure. ???

Hi Dave

Very impressed with your site ;) but not your prices :(  sorry.

I would agree with what has been already said in that at the very least you should double your prices and lose the From when it comes to advertising prices.

I see you have a minimum price of £45.00, straight away that would put off any customer who looks and sees that your price for a 3 seater sofa is From£25.00 but she knows it will increase as you have a minimum charge so it might be perceived that there is a little bit of 'bait & switch' going here.

Your price for cleaning a 3 piece suite would be again From £55.00 by how much could you raise this to a more realistic level now the customer knows your bottom line? no more than another £20.00 if your lucky. A good £70.00 - £100 less than most of us would do it for.

I would leave off the prices, I know others disagree, but I would want to get into the home and do a proper quote based on all the facts.

The Stimvak logo won't mean diddly to your customers and probably not a lot to some others on here, (did anybody have one of their Toto's ;D)

Hi Woodman,

Yes I see your right about the from bit,  I have changed it now and increased the prices. Also I have discarded the old leaflet and working on a new one, i will keep prices because I dont like doing surveys, maybe I might change my mind. Besides I nearly always come out with more because the after sales such as staingarding and air moving etc.

I hope I am not causing any bad feeling I dont want to give carpet cleaning a bad name. Even though i have been doing it for years, I know I have a lot to learn. Anyway I only do it now part time as I am semi retired and I am happy with what I earn.

I will say I think this forum is great I have only known about it for Two days and have had a lot of help. :)

Thanks for the help guys.

I dont know your prices as I could not open that section of your website without downloading a program which I am not aloud to do on this laptop.

However are you making money? Are you busy? Do you want to make more money?

Could you have an additional Female Operative working with you and expand your exisisting leafleting to provide  more work.

If you go down higher price route you will be selling in a diffrent marketplace.

I note you have decided not to go down this route
