tds reading far to high, help
« on: June 29, 2007, 06:31:24 pm »
hi new to forum and fairly new to wfp, just stumbled across this forum and loving it it (sad as it seems) im having problem with the reading coming from my holding tank, from tap reading is 423, after running through my system i can only get in and around 35-40. contacted my dealer he told me to change water flow to 60 waste 40 good, did this and still only got 35, also just changed my filters in a desperate hope of reducing my usage of resin, my tank holds 1000ltrs and fills over night so dont think my pressure is low but still only getting a reading of 35. please Heeeeeelp................... Getting annnoyed with un helpful dealer.

Hi, Topclean - how old are your r/o membranes?
It's a game of three halves!

I would of said that 35 tds is about normal from a high reading 485tds
My tds is 280 and only get it to 10/15  then oootds after the di resin even
though i`ve got a 25 litre di it still lasts about a year and using 5/6 hundred
litres a day 5 days a week Edd
Also we have got water softner which is worth its weight in gold because it
does the home as well www.gapswater.co.uk £ 385.00 30 litre

would a softner sort the problem, i wouldnt want to spend £375 and go down by 5, also what would be the costing on soft resin be, also sounds costly?

A water Softener want make that much difference to you TDS readings, as it will only take out the Limescale. It will though vastly extend the life of the Membranes as they wont clog up so quickly.
I think the only way to get better reading is to add a Booster pump, will help produce quicker and better Osmose product water and or get a more powerful Osmose unit.
I have an Input TDS value of 450 and get a TDS reading going out of 16.

what type of RO system have you got and do you have a Booster pump?

A booster pump can make a big diffrence if your water pressure is low.

You could change your flow rate to 80% waste to 20% pure and see what happens. It will take it down to about 17 if its a 40 40 RO.

If you have a good quality booster pump it should take it down to 10 which is around 98% removal. The best you can hope for.
