Working in the rain.
« on: May 30, 2007, 05:32:07 pm »
Worked through most of it today. Got a coffee out of most of my custys as well.

It got too heavy for even me so i sat in my van, had a ciggy & read the paper. The custys house i sat outside of brought me out 2 coffees while i was waiting for it to ease up  ;D. On with the water proofs & done them when it eased up a bit. Paid me & booked me next month to do gutters & fascias  :o.

Train your customers not the other way round  ;).

I never start a job if it's raining (light drizzle is ok...ish). Once I've started I always finish, and I don't care if it's chucking it down as I hate having to go back later to finish....throws out my timetable (which is slap-dash at the best of times ;D).

I was doing a school inside and out today so I started at 6am and finished outsides at 11! thoroughly soaked. Same result for windows though. Good encouragement for future rainy days and wfp in the rain is easier!

Pretty much same as me though I will stop if it's torrential, unless I know the custy is out, in which case what they don't see wont hurt 'em. The beauty of all my work is that I live within a third of a mile from all of it, so if I do have to stop I just go back and start where I left off.

Not normally, but did quite a few today in chucking it down rainn. Wfp no probs upstairs, squeegeeing downstairs was perfect too!

Rain proofs on tomorrow and just gonna get on with it, maybe! I Spoke to a mate of mine today and he pointed out if im good enough to make sure their windows are clean for xmas, then the cusys should honour the fact i need to earn a living if they want a regular wc.

I don't like working in the rain, but today was an exception.

I set off to work and the heavens opened up ::) So a quick change of plan was needed, I decided not to do my domestics and headed straight out to my commercials now for some reason they don't seem to care if its raining or not, did half a days work and came home with £90 ;D
Did one domestic on the way home & that was my daughters, now she couldn't moan as its a freebie, got her of my back as well ;D

I work in it up to a point.  Anything up to moderate rain is fine.  It also depends on whether I'm up to date with my work or not.  I don't see the point of getting soaked if I'm up to date or in front.

In thirty years of cleaning trad I've lost no more than half dozen custies due to the rain. I've always tried to politely help them see things through the window cleaners eyes:
"If we don't work when we have too, including in the rain (if necessary) then they lose their window cleaner because we have to find another job that'll pay the bills."
Also: "If I don't work because it's raining then I might as well not work when they forcast rain." Using reasoning like this brings most custies round to our view in the end.

Rain doesn't really bother me.

I won't go out and start the day if it's really throwing it down, but if it's on or off or just light rain then i'll start.
If it decides to throw it down once i have started then i'll carry on and have a few extra coffee breaks in the van.
I tell my customers that all work is guaranteed and if there's a problem i'll come back and re-clean that window.
If it turns out the problem wasn't me ( ie the insides were the problem when i only cleaned the outside) then i charge them a call out charge of 50% of their normal price.
So far everyone's been happy and i've not been called back since the beginning of last year.
