supervisor or not ?

how do you decide if a supervisor is required on a commercial contract?

we have been asked to requote for a company from last year, its a 20 -25 hours cleaning contract mon-fri, 51 weeks of the year.

cleaning supplies are provided but we would provide vac mops signage ppe etc.

would you have a supervisor on site once per week to check up on cleaners? just thinking of linking admin/staff training/supervising into the contract.

Maybe consider your staff, are they quality workers? are they capable of understanding what is required of them? then again a supervisor shows proffessionalism. Does the company you are drawing up with expect an inspection to regularly take place, will your companies work even be noticed? What is your budget? Is this an area you can afford to cut back on or not? How would you feel about doing the inspection yourself?

I work on the principle of over 2 cleaners and I put a supervisor in with them

Hi Lisa,

On a contract of 20-25 hpw I would have a working supervisor, and if you need to cut back on cost,employ the supervisor for only an hour at the end of the shift so your cleaners will not be able to leave early and the supervisor could cover for cleaners whom are on holiday or didn't turn up . Also I find that giving the 'bits' work (staircase,sweeping entrance,brass etc.) to the supervisor means they are done and nobody can say this and that is not in my schedule.However make sure your working supervisor is smart as she would represent your business and deal with a certain amount of paperwork and also she must have common sense and attention to details.

The tricky part is to find THAT person!

20-25 hrs per week, this would be 2 cleaners for 2 to 2.5 hrs per day, yes?

If that is the case I wouldn't put a site supervisor on it but either visit it yourself or get your area supervisor/manager to look in once per week at random times and carry out a QC every 6 weeks.
