Evening all, you helpful lot, has anyone found that their work rate for bin cleaning has increased dramatically since the introduction of  bins for green waste recycling (ie grass hedge clippings etc)?  and also is bin cleaning a good add-on to driveway/patio work?

I can not answer the first question fully as we have had waste and recycling bins delivered together recently but the mix of both is about 80/20% for waste bins being washed.
I purchased the equipment for driveway cleaning during the spring and find that it is a great addition to my bin washing business but you cant just use a pressure washer on bins

Hi Arran, thanks for that, I realise you need a proper set up to do bins, but the driveway stuff alone , (although I have been reasonably busy) is not enough to make a good living from. I am considering bin cleaning as a main  with the driveways as a bit extra to keep me busy. Have spoken to a few locals who are keen but are not aware of a bin service so i think there may be a gap in the market. Do you find that you have to stick to the towns or can you make a go of it in villages also, i was thinking of 6 cleans per year cos any one i've spoken too says they wouldn'y want bins cleaned every 2 or 4 weeks.

The towns are were you will obviously get most of your work but I do some work in villages and they you will find that as there is usually a bit of a community your name gets about quicker than in the towns just remember its not worth travelling very far for what is usually £3?.  The schedule for cleaning bins i work on a four weekly basis and some customers do not want that but if you do it less you will still have to charge a low amount but spend more time cleaning them each time so not sure that this will make you much money although combined you could make a living i suppose.

A question for you how did you start advertising your drive cleaning and what sort of prices should i be looking at to start off with?

I  put 7500 flyers inserted into regional paper, and advertise in local town "advertiser" type magazines. Have also been getting a large amount of work from word of mouth. I dont ever do door to door as i dont like to pressurise people and so far everything has been going ok.
Was thinking of doing £3.50/bin every two months but still not sure whether to go for it.
