advice needed on starting up
« on: April 25, 2007, 09:22:13 am »
Hi, me and my partner are about to venture into the world of domestic cleaning. We have both run other business's before so have business skill's. However the cleaning industry is something we don't know much about. We know the basic's, but would love to hear from anyone who has advice, and also from people who have started within the last couple of years to see how far they  :)have come in that time. many thanks.

Christ, aren't the people on this site helpful!!

We started up in 1991 and were simply a car and a ladder, canvassing customers door to door until we could make enough to pay our bills.

We progressed to a small van and better ladders, with more customers, domestic and commercial, and now drive a Transit van fitted with a Reach and Wash system. Our customers range from two monthly domestic window cleans to daily night club contract cleans, carpet cleaning and most things in between.

Take your time, work hard and the work will come your way. so long as you're professional in what you do you'll keep your customers and they will probably secure you more work than anything else.

Above all, enjoy the freedom that this business gives you.

Good luck.
We know we're the best, you know we're the best, I guess we can't both be wrong!!!

I have moved this topic to General Cleaning as it appears to have been missed in frwquentley asked questions.

hi there

focus is key.

market an area that you are comfortable with, you dont want to be driving miles and miles between jobs.

never quote the client per hour, quote per visit, or per job.  you will obviously use an hourly calculation in your working, but dont mention it in the sales pitch.

find a decent cleaning supplies company, but i would say stay away from the national buying consortiums.

personally, i would check out commercial cleaning first as opposed to domestic. thats only my opinion.

regards

martin

Hi ,

If you go domestic make sure you ring most of the other cleaning companies to find out the hr rate as it's easy to overprice yourselves.
Flyers through doors, Just done a village in my area and had 4 new customers out of 250 drop
If you not sure how to deal with a cleaning issue bring it to the forum no matter how silly it may be, someone will have an answer.
