Nylon Carpet Tea / Coffee Stain
« on: April 11, 2007, 02:14:44 pm »
Whilst Working for a Landlord  today I was asked to clean a Nylon Carpet with a Tea / Coffee Stain not sure which ( vacant property) more like tea.

Burn test indicated a nylon fibre.

I used a number of methods to try and remove the stain

a) fab & fib rinse - stain pro - no joy
b) chemspec browning solution - no joy
c) prochem coffee remover - no joy

I did of course allow time and rinse in between session's .

The overal effect has lightened the stain.

Was there any other options?

Why does a water based stain mange to attach itself to a nylon fibre, I have had a similar problem with a wool carpet last year but not a synthetic (less than five years old)? Unless it has been set by other agents.

Nylon does not like this type of stain and can be difficult to remove  and sometimes permanent.
If it was in polyprop it would come out very easy.

The best cause of action would be sodium metabi or hydrogene perox.

Thanks Paul,

Would this have removed or masked the stain?

In most cases it would render it invisible.

Check this out, but practice at home before having ago on customers carpets

i had a problem once with a tea stain. the lady told me she spilt it the other night and rubbed it with towels.

i went through my basic stuff of 'you should have blotted etc etc'

i ran my eyes over it and set the machine as normal. to be honest, although the stain was quite dark, its nothing my usual solution wouldnt remove.

in fact, i was so confident, i didnt pre spray, i just went in with the steam.

the stain almost all come out. and the lady was very happy. although something was niggling me. i dried the stain as best as i could and went over it again for good measure. andi was right... right bang in the centre of the stain was another chemcial which the lady had 'forgotton to advise me of'

when asking her she denied using any chemical, just told me she rubbed towels into the carpet thinking that would remove it.

luckily, i got most of 'her' chemical up and by gently using a bit of stain pro and a white towel, got that little last bit out.
