Drop the bottle and get a proper sprayer. Bottles are for spotting or upholstery pre-spray.
If you are buying from a local janitorial supplier, let us know what ranges they sell.
If you are buying from further afield, and given your inexperience, I would keep it as simple as possible. In which case, gain your experience in as safe a way as you can. In this case I would advise the detergent option of Spitfire Advance pre-spray from the Dry Fusion people and carry an acidic rinse for problematic carpets, or a Woolsafe micro-splitter if you have a machine for agitating. Both of these products are multi-fibre, freshwater rinse and designed for use on both carpets and upholstery, and both produce excellent results. Your cash outlay and storage requirements will be minimal, and as your experience and confidence grows, you'll be able to take onboard some of the more focused "problem solver" type of products.
Safe and happy cleaning
