Thoughts on Fiat Doblo
« on: March 24, 2007, 12:21:49 pm »
I'm looking at getting a small van for a 400L system, possibly a Fiat Doblo.

http://www.fiatvans.co.uk/cgi-bin/lcv.dll/LCV_UK/showroom/showroomModel.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1583046405.1174738275@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccdaddkhjmjdmhcefecejgdfiidgnf.0&modelKey=223

Would 730kg payload be enough for a 400L Tank + reels etc?

Anyone use a Fiat Doblo? Thoughts please...

Thank you

marc al

I don't know about newer Fiats, but they always used to be suspect on electrics and rusting - I would play it safe and not fill one of them with water, nor anything French either.

Mike a 400 litre tank when full would weigh round about 450 kg when full, then you have to add your weight and anybody elses whose with you plus your fuel and all other equipment so you would be near to the max i would of thought if there where 2 of you working, if your by yourself you would be fine, plus from the minute you start your first job the weight starts to go down.
A bad days fishing is better than a good days work !

Thanks, it a 2002 model I've seen. I imagine the payload would be the same. They do a special variant version of 850kg payload which would be better. I'd have to enquire as to the payload of this second hand one I've seen.

Have you got a pic by any chance.

That's where I went for mine in November 06 on a 4yr lease - it's brilliant (but I'm comparing with an old Honda gas-guzzling automatic estate car.)

I work alone and I've got a 400L tank in the back behind the standard metal bulkhead.

If you have two up I would say it's too small and that the Scudo is better.

Also I chose the 1.3SX multijet turbo diesel over the 1.9 for two reasons - Firstly, I do short journeys, start/stop and have only done 2600 miles in 4 months. Second the gross vehicle weight is exactly 2000kg which means I can go legally at car speeds on national speed limit roads wheras the 1.9 has a gvw of 2020kg which means it is limited to 60/50 on dual carriageway and single carriageway national speed limit roads. (Motorways are still 70mph tho'.)

I also chose the side door option which I would always go for for ease of access.

After deposit of under £600 the monthly repayment is £179 and I have to make £2k at the end to break even. All business expense too.

It has an mpg meter and round town I get 40/45mpg and on a steady run 50mpg - with water on board.

BTW I know several w/c who have gone Scudo/Expert but they tend to be two up teams with 650L tanks.
It's a game of three halves!

My son has been running a brand new fiat doblo for 6 months with a 400ltr flat tank in.

Never had a problem with it. Its just the basic van with no sliding doors. But he is wfp only so we have set the van up with all the connections and pipe work at the rear of the van next to the rear doors. see pics attached.

Even the basic van gets a steel bulkhead.

My son has the 1.3 multijet diesel, Great engine, its nippy even when fully loaded and hes averaging 42 mpg. It comes with a computer so you know how many mpg you are doing as you drive. Great small vans, it was not Eurpeon van of the year for nothing. Gret to drive. Get one.

Hi Mike,

Check out link to one of my few post re Doblo below:
http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=16795.0#msg123205

Didn't sell the van as I shelled out so much to keep it on the road at the time I couldn't afford to offload it.
It's run fine ever since tho.

I don't think I need the sliding doors either really. The tank would take up any space where the door would be anyway.

Hard to visualise how big a 400L tank would be and how much room would be left for hosereels, bucket etc
