Contact your local water board office if that's closer than West Lothian.

If you have your own standpipe, I think they'll start asking awkward questions.

Here's what I received back in February . . .

Hello Davie,

I understand that you have an enquiry regarding standpipes, The standpipes are issued by our stores at Muir Road in Livingston, there is no limit to the number hired. They are available on a three month or annual hire, £129.25 and £423 respectively (price includes VAT).

The standpipes are kept in stock although a phone call to ensure availability is advised, the no. for Muir Road stores is 01506 446 100.

Taking a cheque with bankers card to Muir Road directly is the quickest and easiest way to get the standpipe, this is also the point of return.

I would like to advise that in order to extract water from a hydrant you must use a Scottish Water standpipe, extracting water without a standpipe issued by Scottish Water is illegal.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to get in touch on 0131 445 6550.

Regards,

John Heron

Hi Guys,

the standpipes we hire from water authority have recently been fitted with a meter so you not only pay to hire pipe but also for tyhe amount of water you use!
