1000ltr tank
« on: December 11, 2006, 11:49:33 am »
Who uses one of these in their van?
I have a 2.5 transit, so it could cope with the weight im sure, but it is a huge amount of tank to have!
Also they are much cheaper than buying a 400ltr tank(which is all im after really)
I was just wondering, for all the people that use one, do you wish you had a smaller one?
Does it clog up the back of your van?

Hi i had a 700 ltr in my transit the thing you need to becarful about even though you have a 2.5 is the payload weight. If you have a payload of 1000kg you can only have the tank filled up thats it.No ladders no equipment so you need a biggg van really for that size tank.

I use at the mo a 400 flat tank and with microbore hose and a varistream find it lasts all day. I get 20 4 bed out of it and can get 65 flts out of 400 ltrs.No good if you have the 1/2 inch hose would use too much water.

As easy clean windows said about the weight.
Its not the engine size that determines how much you can carry its the payload.
Although a bigger engine does help with heavy loads

Transits do a variety of differant payloads

Ie

transit 80 = 800kg payload
Transit 100 = 1000kg payload
Transit 120 = 1200 kg payload
Transit 260 = 1020kg payload
Transit 280 = 1130 kg Payload

etc

And the 1000ltr tank you are talking about i take it that its an IBC tank.
These have no baffles so would need baffles put in otherwise its likely to kill you in the unlucky event of an accident.

Go for a 600 litre if in doubt that way your under weight can get all your equipment ladders etc in and yourself and it will last hours and hours without running out.

well mine is a 120 so i should be ok with the weight, but i dont use wfp for all my work. Im mostly trad, just a few houses i do wfp, and my commercial stuff. so i would only looking to keep about half a tank in there at a time with a DI vessel. But do you find it takes up too much room?
Or do you know of a cheaper way to get a 400ltr- 600tlr  tank?

no even with a 700 litre tank it roomy but a 400 litre is better because you can have it upright ,right at the bulkhead so you have loads of room

I have 650 litres in total but split tanks

One 400 litre tank that I started with and then I added on a 250 litre tank and my van still has a large amount of room to play with.

I find like most people 400 litres does most of the day OK, Then if I need it I have another  tank of 250 litres ready to use.

Microbore hose does help with water usage and you tend to get more out of a days water in the tank. I have 2 hose reels fitted with microbore and they are fantastic to use as they are very light too.(Consider this too when getting a tank if you can afford it...you won't be sorry)

I know everyone will tell me I am an idiot who is going to ill myself, but I have a 1000ltr IBC in my van, and on accasion have forgot to turn off my water overnight and ended up with 950ltrs in it, I get on fine with it, although I am going to change to a 650ltr when I can afford it so I can get my race bike in the van.

Without baffles the tank doesn't really make too much of a problem, in fact it slows you down and pulls you back when you get a slosh on, never had a cornering problem, and you are only over weight when you go out in the morning if you have over filled it!!
