Hi guys was just woundering what machine maintenance you lot carry out on a porty and how often? I've had mine about 4 months. Also do most of you service your own or get someone else to do it & what should be carried out in the service?

I'd suggest: Replace the brushes, check for bearing wear, inspect pipework for leaks, inspect wiring for damage, check action of switches, lubricate quick connects, PAT test.

Also i like to once a week run pure water, fibre and fabric rince or some good old viniger through the machine. Just helps stop the pipes getting corroded and blocked.

Change brushes every 5 - 600 hours. Waste tank and dump valve seals every 12 mth, Check for leaks etc, obviously PAT test every 12 months. Carry spares so if it breaks you can fix it quick! I have 2 lamb 3 stage vacs, 135 psi shureflow pump, fuses, quick connects, and solution pipes for hand tools as spares just in case! Worst case scenario only out iof action for an hour or so if it breaks down. Bit of an outlay to do this but could cost you more in work ( especially this time of year ) if you have to wait a day or two for parts.

just to add i hav machines over 6 years old never serviced ever ones had a new pump but a service wouldnt av stop the pump packing up   so how much do they charge a service 100 pounds plus parts they recon u need ?  so ive saved me self about 1000 pounds or more in unnes service charges , its just a way of suppliers upping thier turnover imo , a portable cleaning machine aint rocket science its gooner brake someday forsure , do u get u washing machine  serviced or your vac at home ?

Repair if funny noise or breaks down.
Keep spare vac and pump at home. if breakdown on job, just lose the morning or afternoon.

Agree, get it serviced if needs be, but you are better off learning to service your self

im with cleaning co, there nothing to service really, you can replace brushes to extend the life of vac motors, but they'll still go eventally.

a brake down will only be one of 2 things vac motor or pump (other than fuse, leaky pipe triveal stuff)

i used to wait for it to brake, then bung new vac motor / pump in.

once a year service by myself

always carry a spare vac motor, pump, hoses and connectors & fuses

Will be servicing my main machine in Jan.

Anyone serviced Pumptec pumps on their Ninja? I believe there is a seal kit available and should be done every 1000 hours.

I will also have to remove the pump as one of the lower support brackets has broken it's weld, not looking forward to it!
Seems a bit Heath Robinson to have support brackets welded to a hose clip around the motor?

Whats the best thing for descaling? Thinking of running kettle descaler through the machine.

tescos  do a good descaler  think its called rockkill or something like that , i do my ninja every 4 weeks works a treat

I've just had my pump head and motor replaced by Ashby's (I oredered the pump head and paid for nightfreight only to totally reshape one of the outlet conversion nuts using the wrong sized spanner :)  Anyhow, they fit the pump motor differently now on its own proper platform. REALLY solid and with an under chassis brace in true Ashby's style. Total shire horse of a machine
