Black rubber stains to the UPVC
« on: December 04, 2006, 03:11:28 pm »
Hi all,

Anyone got any advice for a newbie? I'm having a go on some UPVC windows that haven't been cleaned in a long while. The problem is I'm get a load of black yuk off the glass rubbers which has now stained the face of the plastic. What ever I try to get it off doesn't work and I have a load more windows to do yet!  ???

Any suggestions gratefully received!!!!

Steve.

It sounds like the rubber has perished, and best left well alone, if when you detail, does your cloth get covered in black?

you can spend hours on them and you will keep getting covered in black rubber.
You should be able to wipe it easily from the frame when wet, if it has now dried on, try a little TFR, once the frame is clean, strear clear of the rubber.

Someone might come back with another answer, but this is what I do when I come across perished rubber.

Hi Jeff

Thats exactly whats happing on detailing. Its strange that its only the front of the house thats doing it as the back is fine? It doesn't look cracked or anything, just filthy black.

I'll get some TFR and try that carefully as noted.

cheers Jeff - Steve

Hi Steve

Its only happening on one side of the house because of the weather, normally the north facing side, It won't look like its perishished, but they are a pain in the neck.

Cheers Jeff  - your certainly right about it being a pain!

Looks like a few hours cleaning carefully for me then - still should get me some interest hopefully from passers by and you never know may lead to some paid work...  :D
