Discount or no discount?
« on: October 30, 2006, 05:34:37 pm »
Hi lads need some advice if i may,
Just had a phone call from a lady in my local area, only owns one of the biggest houses around here lol. She told me some bedroom carpets needed cleaning when i asked how many she said gosh i haven't counted  :o then starts counting 1,2,3,4,5 bedroom carpets this place is like a palace. Going round tom to do a quot, just wondering how you lot would price a job like this? would you stick to your guns, or would you discount for such an area???
any advice is much appreciated
cheers
matt

You have already done the correct thing by visiting, when you get there be professional and charge accordingly, the rooms will be bigger than a normal house but dont think you can go in there and rip her off.

Treat it like any other customer, but dont bother with discounts.

Thanks Phil for your reply,
I will carry out a professional quotation as i always do, but that is why i asked as i do not want to rip the lady off. Thing is if i charge her my standard rate and treat each room as a single room i can see the quote turning out to be abit on the high side.

A quote in a huge house will soon add up, she will expect that, I always tell them how long it will take (approx).

I find these type jobs are easier to get than the average 3 bed houses.

I know what you mean though you add up a load of rooms and before you know it your calculator reads £500.00 and you still have to add up the downstairs.

If in doubt, add it up with no discounts and then if she faints tell her what you are going to do then why, then how you do it TO GET THE VERY BEST RESULTS and then discount if you need the job.

Remember only discount as a last resort.

Assess how long you're gonna be there cleaning all 5 bedrooms.
If you think you're gonna be there most of the day, then charge what you would normally expect to earn in a whole day.

Work to a standard, not a price.

Safe and happy cleaning :)

Perhaps offer a discount off any future jobs she needs doing?

Next time round you'll probably be quicker anyway, 'cos you'll know what the carpets are like.

I went to a job the other day I explained i needed to quote first and she said dont worry the price wont be a problem. I got their and this house is gorgeous with electric gates etc 6 bedrooms marble stairs, but the woman (about 30) was so down to earth, anyway i quoted £69  (hsl two sets of stairs)  I finished the job and she presented me a check for £169.00 I said "no only 69" and she said "well rainbow charged me 250 for the same job  last year"so take the 169!!  lovely lady..she paid me with some sort of swiss bank check ,and told me a story about when she lived in scotland she had chemdry come in and do a job and they stole a whole box of brand new football strips for one of the top scottish teams (dont know why she had them) anyway they were prosecuted.
