Am i 2 Soft
« on: May 22, 2004, 02:02:37 am »
I never start work before 9 and very rarely work beyond 2, My Nephew works 4 me but i do all the ladder work. I would like him to get motivated and get his arse up there but he is slow on the ladder so i do it. My point is this i would like him to start to take over this role for me and then i could employ someone else to help him thus freeing me up as my wife will soon be giving birth to our 1st child and i would like to start to take some time out whilst others are out there earning for me. On average i am paying him £50 a day that day being from say 9 to 1 or 1.30 but he is only doing ground floor work. He is a good lad and very trust worthy and i could leave him in charge of others but it worries me i need people that can motivate themselves and earn fast. I know its not a massive amount of money im paying him but he knew this when i took him on the more work i get the longer hours we work the more i can afford to pay him but the problem is this we have worked these hours for to long now i dont really want to work on any longer neither does he and this is where my problem lies i want to still go into work for some amount of the day and earn fast then stop and leave the others that work for me to carry on am i being silly  or to soft?????

Not sure how you can expect him to be more motivated.

if you pay him a set amount for the day and have a reasonable amount of work set for the day, then let it be up to him how long it takes.

It might take you an hour longer than normal at first, but if you encourage him he might try to work faster to finish early.

Now, I work that out to between £11.11 to £12.50 per hour. If he can't get motivated on that rate of pay, tell him his job's advertised at the JobCentre and you're interviewing at the end of the week!

Stuff that "blood's thicker than water" malarkey - he's taking the Mick, and you need to realise it.

Don't shoot the messenger - it's called Tough Love.

The hours are not set by the employee-
Paul says he wants to take it easier - how much easier could he take it!
He wants staff that are motivated - but he is not motivated himself.
He now wants to support his family by not working at all and having two paid staff only working four hours a day!
Am I missing somthing here
