New Domestic Window Cleaner
« on: November 09, 2006, 03:37:02 pm »
Finally given in, my son has asked if I will give him a job!!
21, almost and has a serious aversion to hard graft, but I have told him that he has to start out from scratch, just like I had to!

So now the question guys, traditional or WFP?

Please bear in mind, that this is domestic work, dont know the makeup of the round yet, but would assume terraced, semi and detached, will give up my own time, one day a week only to help canvass, train him etc.

I dont mind helping him with the start up costs, but budget is limited at the moment, due to the real possibility of him chucking a moody once he has to graft for a living LOL!!

Your thoughts would be welcome,

Regards,

Rob

I would say WFP due to the safety aspect of it.
But he would still need some traditional gear as there is always something  that need to be done traditional.

This bit made me laugh...
I take it you have given him a job starting up on his own  ???

But you are going to help with the costs

Got it in one paul!!

He helps out when we are really stretched, once he gets his head down he can do the work, but need him to understand that life is serious, and he has to make choices and sacrifices for the things he wants out of life.

We, as a company only deal with the commercial side of things, and we use another company for commercial windows, so when you suggest WFP, which type do you reccomend, been looking at trolleys and trailers at the minute, but am concerned about the hose run required for terraces etc,

Hi robert.

I used to be a traditional window cleaner but when i changed over i went for a trolley (omnitrolly).
I also have a van system but started with the trolley and it still gets used quite a bit now.

My round is a mixture of both commercial and domestic.
If i was to start window cleaning again from scratch it would be with a trolley again.

The reason terrace house i find are quicker with a trolley as there no chance of anyone falling over the hose as you dont need a hose.
Some of my work i can't get parked close enough for the van system so out comes the trolley.

Omnipole do some good trolleys they have 3 differant types now and the lastest one a hose reel attached with 50 mtrs of hose.
So you could use this as a mini van mount and leave in the vehicle and just run the hose out but also if you can get parked close to the property you can get it out and use as a trolley.

You would also be able to save yourself some money and get your son to do the commercial work.
Maybe that could be a way he could pay for the equipment you get him.

I would advise that you try and find someone he could spend a day or so with and be able to try out a WFP to make sure its for him.
And also he will then know the correct way to use the equipment.
