Chinese wool rug
« on: August 29, 2006, 02:17:01 pm »
Hi all

I recently bought an Extracta DX from a very decent gentleman on here who also threw in other bits and bobs - cheers David.

Since then I've only used the machine to keep my office cleaning clients happy by doing the odd square metre of carpet tiles.

I've finally printed some leaflets (with much help from Dan of Red Carpet - owe you a drink when we finally meet, mate!) and went out door-knocking.

The very first house I knocked on I was invited in to price a 'hand-made  chinese wool' rug with every colour under the rainbow. It's a good job I was wearing dark trousers. No, really I was excited in equal measure, and promised to get back to him this evening.

But I need help. What chemicals do I use? Should I pre-spray? What should I extract with. Do I clean in-situ or take it away. It measures 14x12 feet approx. It didn't look particularly dirty, as out door shoes are removed at front door. How much would be a fair charge?

I have done the Prochem course and can carry out the tests for colour fastness, etc.

Freddie
A consistently good service

You need to vacuum and vacuum and vacuum again. This way you will remove a lot of the loose dirt. After doing your tests just extract it with a suitable product for wool. If it has fringes and they need cleaning, we use powdered cotton cleaner as these are raw cotton and can turn brown if you use a normal detergent. Clean and extract with a hand tool. I would try and do it in situ as a rug that size is some weight and taking off site you need somewhere suitable to clean and dry it.
