Advice wanted. Mouldy wool carpet
« on: August 22, 2006, 06:07:20 pm »
I am booked in to survey/price a job.   :-\

Basically a wool rich carpet was cleaned by another cc. Apparently the client covered part of the still damp carpet with plastic sheet and stacked some boxes on it. This area has gone mouldy and the original cc says it cannot be cleaned.

I havent seen what state this carpet is in, so dont know the extent or type of damage, but rather than just say no to possible future business, I want to give it a try if it is doable.

Has anyone any experience, advice or tips of dealing with mould on carpets?

Thanks Paul.

All the mould/rust removers seem to be kill or cure.

I will probably let the client decide on wether or not he should spend a bit of money on risking treatment costs against a new carpet.

Why not try Prochem Clensan or Microsan?

A good while ago I used a steam gun on an area of mould on a carpet to try and kill off the spores.

I spoke to the customer a few weeks ago and as far as she was concerned it had done the trick with no signs of mould returning

Custy rang to say he has managed to get an identical piece of carpet to replace the damaged area, so I wont know if it could have been cleaned successfully.

Thanks for the sensible comments. 8)
