I use the high density ones from Hydramaster round about £30 per 1000.

They dont crumble.

I use small clear plastic bags or even carrier bags turned inside out supplied by the customer. Never any  complaints and no cost. Customers don't mind getting them out for me.

Dave, Not knocking your use of plastic bags but I personaly would be a little apprehensive
in using these !!!
Mainly because of the chance of the plastic tearing , therfore possibality of transfer,
 you may have been ok up to now but thier is always that chance.

I personaly use polystyrene blocks that you find for packing delicate items etc,
cant find a great deal of difference between the bought blocks and packing.

         plastic bags are fine but what do you  do if you need to raise the piece of furniture as some pieces do not have legs as such and the whole plinth touches the carpet. this is where i find i need the snap blocks

I use foils and have no problem.

As peter has said these blocks are for large peices of furniture with flat bottoms. It is much easier to place a block at each corner than trying to place plastic or foils under every contact point.

If furniture has a plinth, don't move it, instead clean around it :

Only joking and point taken about being easier to lift at corners. Before i have always used black bin liners for plinhed furniture but i will get some plinth blocks.
