Water mark
« on: August 24, 2006, 02:49:30 pm »
Wife just took a call from a "shop" who's "air conditioning leaked onto the carpet". Unfortunately, she didn't think to ask exactly what had leaked or how old the stain is!  ::)

Anyone have any ideas if this is likely to be just water or will it be something else..what would be the best way of removing this?

At this stage I assume that the carpet is some sort of heavy duty nylon based thing.

Its Probably water. However the brown tide mark stain can sometimes be difficult to remove. Try a normal clean and if the stain remains you may need to use something harsher like Oxybrite.
They may be tiles in which case best option is to move the damaged ones to an inconspicious area.

I suspect it's water/condensation..I couldn't think what else would leak from an air conditioner as I thought they contained gases/liquids.

Anyway, I'm due to look at it later today.

Thanks all.

Just been to have a look.

The carpet is a mustard yellow synthetic cord type carpet.

There are two LARGE water marks on the carpet which appear almost black in colour. Both were caused by escapes of water and I suspect that at least some of the stain has wicked out of the backing and/or concrete floor below.

Will browning prescription do the job or should I be looking to use something else?

Just try plain extraction cleaning before messing about with it. If its black it may just wash out.

It's a sort of dark browny black. Difficult to describe but it doesn't look like it's mould and it looks darker than 'normal' water staining I have seen before but that may simply be down to the type of the carpet.

I'm just worried that maybe more muck will get sucked up through the carpet. (From what I can gather the carpet was laid straight onto an unsealed concrete floor.)

I think I'm only going to get one crack at cleaning this carpet as there is a lot of heavy stuff to be moved before hand. What I want is a "plan B" should normal cleaning not work.

Try browning perscription just spray it on and leave, you may have to use 2-3 applications, also coffee stain remover sometimes works just as good. again spray on and leave.

These products work as they  dry so the more you spray down the longer it takes to dry and work.

try misting it down a few times,

Ive used a hair dryer before, i get loads of water stains through the insurance jobs i get so im pretty good at them 8)

It was a single spillage. Apparently someone left the aircon on over a weekend and the condensate tank overflowed.
