        I am thinking of sub-contracting some of my work out to another opperater. Has anyone done this before, Any advice on this would be very helpfull.

check with inland revenue for guidelines on subcontracting and employing. It is what they determine what the difference is that is important.

its a good way to go, as if they are a bona-fied sub contractor then there papers will be up together

so when you give them work they get it signed you pay them thirty days after invoice which means cash flow will be better.

I've done sub-contract work for a South Wales window cleaning company.

It was generally 'under-priced' from my point of view.

I had to provide proof of public liability insurance, and I was supplied with locally-produced forms that I had to get signed by a member of staff from the commercial property I cleaned.

Once a month I'd send these forms off to my contractors and subsequently received a cheque for my efforts.

My contractors were good; quick payers; which kept me happy, and I only stopped doing the work when I had enough, better paying work of my own.

My advice is, when you find a good sub-contractor, look after them and pay them quickly; since your work will be easily replaced.

If they are registered with the Inland Revenue and they provide you with an invoice you shouldn't have any problem. They should have some of their own work and provide their own equipment etc. There's more to it than that but for more detail on how the inland rev looks on it, look up Employment Status on their web site.

I've had the inland rev do whats called an 'aspect check'on me especially with regard to wanting to know about subcontractors. All they asked for is names and addresses of subcontractors and how much i paid them. They then go away and check that they are registered as self employed or whatever.
Good job was all in order otherwise I would have had to pay their NI and Tax for what I'd paid them.

I also agree with Tosh. Pay your subcontractors well and they'll do a good job and be reliable.

              Im based on the Isle of Man.   Also what would be a good % to pay. All this is new to me.
