1st January 2025

It's official............ after my recent stroke and operation I'm now finding it hard to continue with my window cleaning round.

I put it on FB for sale and it sold immediately,  the buyer came around last night and paid me £1,000 deposit and the remainder due in December, I'm very happy with the price I got for it and the buyer is also happy, he is taking on all my round as from 1st January 2025 .

I still have the van and equipment and I may just do one or two  gutter/facia cleans per week as I do get a lot of phone calls for this kind of work which in turn would give me something to do.

If by chance I find that too hard then the next step would be to sell the van plus equipment.

I just hope I don't get too bored with my retirement, I have however just purchased a nice camera and intend to get into photography as a hobby.

Wish me luck guys and I will still stay on the forum as I've been in this business since 1977 and still find it interesting.

Congratulations on the decision and sale.
I’m sure you’ll find enough to do.

Get a set of binoculars and take up bird watching for a hobby. Check off when you see a different bird.

I couldn't believe how many came to see this rare bird.

Enjoy your retirement, forget about scrubbing glass and find yourself lots of hobbies to fill your time.

Try Fishing - brilliant way to spend a day by the river watching the world go by.

All the best  :)

Great news Jay! Best wishes for the years ahead.

Stick around on the forum and keep us posted as to how it's going.

BTW - How are you handling the sale of your round with your customers?
It's a game of three halves!

I'm pleased to say so far all good as I've printed out a letter and explaining to customers that I have seen at the door and they all seem happy that I have found a replacement.

Out of interest the guy who is taking over told me that in the past he has used a canvasser and paying 3.5 times the clean and loses 50/60 percent in the first 3 months as the canvasser tells people "do 2 cleans then cancel if you want to" not good practice but hey!

Another thing I was going to do was metal detecting when I retired but the window cleaning took off. Bought a good MD and tested it in the garden and put it in the lock up and its still there. Do something you enjoy and you will never need to work a day in your life as they say. After 6 years cleaning I have found it.
One day on the glass and the next day on the tools then back on the glass and then on the tools again, works for me.
