On my way back….
« on: September 29, 2024, 04:34:16 pm »
Malc, can you move this to the WC section please, my mistake.

So, after my accident just about 4 months ago where I broke my shoulder, ribs and had a couple of brain haemorrages, a lot has happened in my life.

Most notably I sold my house and business in the UK and emigrated to Canada. So, I’ve been out here just about a month and a half. Things are beginning to move in the right direction about getting myself back on my feet work-wise.

With that in mind yesterday I bought a truck. It’s a 5.3 litre,  4 W.D. G.M.C. Sierra. Cost £11,000.

Ideal I think for pressure washing. No idea about what lies ahead for me window-cleaning wise.

Unsure about the canopy, but will probably keep it on.

I know.  ;D

It’s funny how quickly you get used to driving on the other side.

Your wish is my command!

Without asking for details beyond which you are comfortable sharing - how did you go about selling your business and what kind of buyer had it? (as in company, one man band, split in different ways)
It's a game of three halves!

I have sold work to another window cleaner on here, albeit only one property, but when I started musing about selling the business I put a post on here about it.

The same window cleaner subsequently heard through the grapevine I was selling up so called me. He is now in partnership with another window cleaner. We all three met up for a coffee, I discussed what I had for sale and what I wanted for it, they were both very agreeable, and we agreed a price on the spot, subject to certain conditions.

I wasn’t selling immediately as I had my house to sell so they out a 20% deposit down on the work and would pay the balance once my house move was finalised. That took quite a long time, and the two guys were very patient. Now hassle from them about hurrying up the procedure, just the occassional WhatsApp to get an update.

Then I had my accident which put a whole new perspective on things but they were just happy to wait. I was very grateful that they didn’t pressurise me throughout that time at all and when the time to sell came they transferred the money spot on. The sale of the business included the sale of two websites but not the van.

Prior to doing business with these two I’d had enquiries from another cleaner but to be frank he was a real arse. He thought he would tell me what the work sould be sold for and if we agreed a price once we had agreed then I’d work for him. A complete prick to be honest but the right sale came along, quite speedily and with very little hassle from the buyers.

Fuel is £1 a litre. I don’t care what it does, it’s like driving a throne.  ;D

They’ve all got trucks over here, this is the line up on the ferry on the way in to town yesterday morning

On the far left a Chevvy, then a Ford F150, a Toyota Tacoma and to the right a GMC Sierra

Wil do Colin. Though bear in mind it’ll be a slow process for a number of reasons. One of them is that currently I’m also pre-occupied with working on the house. We bought this place just over a year ago and are planning on spending a wedge on it, some of which I’ll be doing (and have already started). Also pressure washing season is quite a seasonal thing over here, currently we have a hose pipe ban due to the summers being dry. Anyway, once things on that front really start moving I’ll post updates.

Does a hose pipe ban over there mean commercial businesses too?

Good luck with your new life in Canada  mate(and no ladder work!)...

The weather in Canada has been much better than here.

We have a customer who has a house here but lives in Canada. She arrived a couple of days ago and remarked how cold it was here.

Wish you the best Slacky

It does mean businesses too. Here anyway. All water here is straight from the spring. No reservoirs.

Haven’t tested it. I need to get a TDS meter. It’s one thing I meant to do before I left the UK, you’ve reminded me of that now 😀😀
