Gardiners brush weights
« on: November 08, 2023, 10:26:33 pm »
Bit confused  ???,If i go to the Gardiners "brush guide" on my smartphone, the weights are different to the Brush guide weights if i access via my pc !!  Whats that all about? ie the supreme 23cm medium dupont hybred  says 185g on the phone but 160g on my pc. Its as though im accessing different websites. It looks like most of the weights have gone up if the phone is to be believed. im not being pedantic,ts quite an important factor to be taken into consideration when comparing different manufactures brushes, so need to know which is correct. heres the pc brush guide..

I haven’t used a PC since about 1992, but let’s wait for Alex pop along to clarify.

It's exactly the same weight on my PC as it is on my phone, 160g.

Maybe your phone has saved an old image of the chart and brings that up.

On the bottom of the chart, it states that the weight is a bare-bones brush and doesn't include the weight of the jets or the brush holder.

Unfortunately, I haven't an old chart saved on my computer to check any changes.

And for completeness here's 2023 weights and range for anyone browsing the forum and confused. I'd ake the most recent weights as actual weights Nigel as I'm sure Alex wouldn't mislead potential customers. Not sure why you saw the old weights in just your phone/PC- I had to Google image search my screenshots to find them. 👍

Hi NBwcs

What is happening is that on your phone you are looking at the brush guide section icon image - rather than the actual Brush Guide product image.

On a PC this Icon is restricted to about 200x200px so cannot be read, whereas on the phone it shows this icon in full size and it can easily be zoomed in on. This Section image is actually a much older brush guide and has not been updated as it was not thought of when the guide was changed the last few years.

So to prevent this confusion I have now downgraded the resolution of the brush guide for the section icon so now it is just a blur on a phone if enlarged to view. This means that even on the phone you now have to click on the section and go to the actual brush guide which has the up to date 2023 Brush Guide.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention as this may have confused others as well.

Why has this brush gone down in weight? This is because of using different bristle materials (TaperTec) which have allowed us to reduce the weight slightly - this was not why we updated the bristles, but it is a useful 'side-effect'.

Cheers Alex, great explanation, and good to know the lighter weights are the correct ones.

Think of it like a wagon wheel - when you were a kid they were Hugh!
Now they are half the size and twice the price 🤪🤪
Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience
