The WFPL ( round) Fob uses a similar technology to mobile phones. They both use analogue a radio transmitter and receivers. As with mobile phones signal strength/range can vary depending on where you are and what other sources of radio transmissions and radio interference are around the work site We are restricted By UK radio transmissions regulations as to the power we are allowed to transmit from the fob and as such Line of sight range can be up to 300 meters. So in a estate of detached or semi detached properties Range will be better than working in the middle of a Town,City where building are more compact and taller. The Radio signal from the fob will try find a straight line between it and the receiver in some cases this could be through a building, around or even over it. When It can go through the signal goes around or over. When this happens the signal will bounce of a surface ( for example a parked car, a wall or chimney pot TV antenna each time the signal bounces it loses power and the range is reduced. A mobile phone signal works in the same way and this is why sometimes moving a couple paces means the signal on the phone drops. Position of the receiver can also make a difference. The best place for the receiver is in the middle of a panel or mounted on the system. Avoid placing the receiver in the top corner of a van where the antenna is very close to the roof/side panel and rear doors. If the antenna is close to these three metal surfaces the radio signal bounces around like a rubber ball and each bounce reduces power and range . Range can be improved by moving the controller down out of the corner so the antenna can grab the signal more easily. In short then the range can be upto 300 meters line of sight depending on where the work site is and types of buildings around. In these case range can be less. One way to try improve that is to mount the controller receiver more centrally on a panel or on the systems itself CheersIan Sheppard
