Front windows only approach
« on: June 13, 2022, 01:38:55 pm »
I have always agreed to clean back windows for my regular customers right from the start. Now it's starting to annoy me. I'm based in London so parking permits are often required and it's hassle with access and time consuming.

I put my prices up for anything at the back but still not enough compare to just front windows. It just makes more money for me.

Had a customer casually ask me to clean her summer house at the back when she saw me cleaning her front windows. I told her I would come back another day but seriously can't be bothered. I would have charge a price she probably doesn't want to pay. Anybody on here only clean the front windows? Alternatively I would have to put my price up even higher but I feel like I need to start making it difficult for them to get their back windows cleaned. It's a headache

What if the customer inconsiderately wants clean windows at the back of their house?

You need to explain your situation regarding issues with parking or lack of parking and allow for inconvenience in pricing otherwise, what's the point if you are just breaking even or even below. A lot of hassle for little gain, be prepared to lose them. Replace them with better work and you'll thank yourself later.

I think this is a London specific problem. You’d struggle to make a business out of front only anywhere else in the country imo.

personally i prefer to clean all the outside windows front and back...i hate doing half a job......i do have some front only jobs but thats  because of access issues(usually no access to the back).....

most of my jobs i can clean the backs no problem with no access issues whatsoever....
price higher/work harder!

I have a row of about 25 out of 40 largely fronts only on the A4 out of Bristol. These are 1930's semis where the garages/extensions join each other or have a locked gate. I just do the fronts with the backs on request.

However the parking isn't a problem.

They average £9 a pop for front and upper side and take me 4 hours if I don't do a back.
It's a game of three halves!

In London fronts only you’d still earn loads if it was right in the middle.

I love my front only days, £10 fronts and all day one road, easy day.  Rows of terrace houses without side access. If back is requested its at least £20 (access issue and less frequent).

On this topic, what others are charging for fronts only in London if singe job or with lots of customers on same street.

Mick Kent

He used to come on here and made a lot of money cleaning fronts only...over £100 an hour

Unfortunately he admitted he was a heavy gambler too so he probably blew most of it

You can earn more than that I have customers that have town houses in London they pay 60-70 front only,Holland Park area she said they do at least 10 where she lives in the same road.

I see no problems with doing fronts only, I have several roads in Eastleigh where they are all very old terraces houses and access can be difficult for the backs  so suffice to say it's fronts only at £10 a pop for 5 minutes work.
