Lead staining
« on: June 08, 2022, 10:40:11 am »
Hi, I have a new customer that has upscale leaded windows but the lead has oxidised and left staining on the glass and looks terrible in the sunlight. I haven’t cleaned them yet as I said just the pole won’t get it off so what do you guys recommend that will be safe and not discolour the lead but get the staining off so I can let the customer know as they will be doing it not me? Thank you

Bronze wool pad tbh if they are too bad the first time I would scrub by hand where you can when wet then clean as normal WFP.

We don’t offer restoration of stained glass , it will also return , we will only do a normal clean it’s not cost effective to be dealing with jobs like ,far to busy .

Time to Pass - you could be there hours if not days and still the customer will not be happy - a lot depends on how day the staining is but I give these the thumbs down

If it’s just lead staining on newer type leaded windows it’ll come off with a bronze pad but if they aren’t cleaned regularly afterwards it will come back again,if they are old leads and in a state I would walk on by.

He said the customer will be doing it, he just wants to recommend a product to the customer😉

What happened to the old window cleaner?
As much as we love to help people out, I would just recommend bronze wool pads etc, and just carry on focusing where the money is.
Unfortunately the staining will return.

Yeah it comes back no matter how much of a good job you do getting it off the first time round.

Thank you for the replies, I’ll tell them to try the wool out. I’m definitely not doing it as I’m far too busy it’s a house next door to a customer of mine and they have not long moved in.
