Outside plug in hose reels
« on: July 20, 2021, 11:30:50 pm »
My van has gone in for a bit of body repair as a bus clipped the side of it and I’ve been sent a replacement van with an H20 Ionic system in it,I have to lift the reel out plug a hose in to the outside port and into the hose reel what a complete faff that is.
I’ve been almost bent over double reeling it in and lifting it in and out the van is nothing short of a workout, who voluntarily uses this system to work day in day out they must be nuts.

Not everyone can work with a fixed hose reel inside their van. Some of us work in some areas during the cleaning schedule it is best to lock the van up and not leave the rear doors open.
In better areas we leave the rear doors unlocked but the doors closed.

Once when the doors were open an inquisitive cat got in the back and marked his territory inside.

i used to do this when i got my first van mount with a claber reel which is a lot lighter than most reels but its still a faff compared to just grabbing the end of the hose and walking when you pull up to a job...

its amazing how many window cleaning vans i see with outside ports
price higher/work harder!

Why don't you make a section of hose with connectors on that will reach the outside port but leave the reel in the van and just disconnect the hose each time

Fixed reels. Just shut the rear doors on the hose & lock. Works fine for us.

You can put a hole in the van floor spruce, with roller guides.

Though I appreciate some people don’t like to put holes in their van!

A stainless steel hose reel with 100 meters of mini bore on must weigh close to 40-45kgs it’s an Ionic system I would have thought they would have moved on from these by now, systems are a work of Art their poles and hose reels are stuck in the mid 90s.

This is why I have reinforced pole hose on my reels. Much lighter. Also my reel is semi fixed. Sits in a small tray and a two inch metal meccano strip held by a screw swings over to hold it in place. Move the strip of meccano to one side and I can take it out.
It's a game of three halves!

I have a pick up.

Lifting the hose in and out of the truck is all part of the job.

Dreadful setup that is anyone using that setup wants to be listening to Duran Duran on a Sony Walkman.

It actually works well.

It stays connected and can be rotated 180 degrees if space is limited.

Can always be reeled back in with it sat on the tailgate.

Never found it to be a problem.

Duran Duran on a Walkman?

Hancock's Half Hour on some BlueTooth headphones.
