« on: June 01, 2021, 09:19:11 pm »
Hi
Don't know if anyone else has had this problem but when i stop the flow  my pump keeps going ,resulting in the hose popping of the  reel.is this the pressure switch or something else as when i have had a fault with the pressure switch before the pump wouldnt start.
thanks in advance greg

Adjust the cal on the flow controller.

Check & adjust the calibration of the flow controller or could be the hose on the reel expanding when under pressure and not shutting the pump off in time.
I had this when using some very old hose - replaced with new hose and pump performed completely different.

is it a digital controller your using?

if it is you need to press the 2 outer buttons at the same time and CAL will show up,press the down button a few times to lower the calibration, press the 2 buttons again at the same time to save setting....
price higher/work harder!

You want to go onto the auto cal feature you need to plug the pole in and run it at 30 on the controller, when on auto cal when you get the cal reading un plug the pole and wait for it to dead end.
When it’s dead ended plug the pole back in and press set, you’ve now set the cal.

Also in very warm weather plastic becomes more pliable. If your tank to reel or reel to hose connection has been used sometime and they are plastic then they can wear where they clip on and pop off under pressure. Once they go they keep popping off.

It's a game of three halves!

As above. You need to recalibrate because your hose is now soft due to the hot weather & expanding more than usual. This in turn is making it longer to detect a dead end.

I hardly ever bother to turn the pump off when I’m actually working I walk back to the van with it still running turn it down to 25 and recirculate back to tank with hot water, hardly any strain if any on the pressure switch then my pumps last years.

John guest piping is hard and doesn’t flex like usual 1/2” hose it’ll detect a dead end with John guest plumbing quicker,I use engine radiator hose from heater to hose reel again there’s little flex in these pipes compared to normal cheap 1/2” hoses.

Yes but he will still have microbore or minibore hose on his reel. That will expand much more in warm weather & effect the dead end calibration.

Yeah but when pressure gets past the reel and into the system it’ll dead end with John guest fittings, hose lock fittings on the system or on the reel will just get blown off all day long unless it’s set almost perfect and we are not in a climate where the temperature is similar for months on end next week it could be back down to 10-15 degrees.

Pressure can only build after the pump so reel hose and pole hose make up almost 100% of the factors which affect pressure build up in a wfp system (apart from any DI's). The plumbing from tank to pump has zero influence- ragradless of how many JG fittings you incorporate.

Most people go from pump to DI to reel the pump senses pressure and it will build up quicker with John Guest as they don’t inflate like cheap crap hose and switch the pump off quicker,IMO the only hose id put on a system that has any flex is the hose itself and and from my heater.

My systems are cold delivery only. I was assuming op was the same.  Certainly cold anyway.
