Wow I need some advice from the Oracle as my wife and daughter are no help on these matters.   My Vavaro died after 50k, slipped cam chain and seized injectors so could not even open it up.  2010 model and it was 2018 3 weeks before Christmas.  Had to buy another van in 24 hours and bought another banger to see me through that period.  Its lasted but I now have some capital and would appreaciate some advice on buying new / nearly new vans.  where is best to go and what time of year is best to buy.  Want to by before end of tax year.  Is it worth going 3 years old does that bring the price down signicantly or do i bite bullet and go new.  if I do go new what is bloody reliable as a meduim sized van.  I have a LWB V Vivaro already and want a smaller van that the 23 year old that works for me can drive as  I dont trust him with LWB.   Any thoughts most welcome.  JJ

Personally can’t go wrong with a transit custom but I’m sure like most vans someone on here will say otherwise. You can buy a lemon with most vans. Most Euro 6 vans now have issues with Egr or dpf.

Customs are great, but the Peugot Expert or Dispatch are much better value for money. If you're not the driver you won't care about the slightly inferior feel of the interior compared to the Custom.

The bigger payload variants (1400) of the dispatch/expert are more common than the transits. The 340 transits are few and far between 👍

I would say given the current inflated prices why not just keep the banger ? I take its still running ? its only a work tool at the end of the day. Im currently driving around in a 2008 connect rather than using my much nicer truck, because they do get knocked about and in winter get filthy.

Not only that but how would you feel if your employee went out in a spanking new van and trashed it. Ive had 2 vans battered by staff, thankfully older vans as i think i would have rung their necks.

For smaller vans i belive the berlingo and partner have 1000kg payload these days, woud that be big enough ? if not then the expert or dispatch. Ive always like the 2.0 hdi PSA engines.

If you look at older vans then the doblo/combo/kangoo all have Lwb versions (still a small van) that carry 1000kg

I had 2014 dispatch Lwb, probably my fav van ive had. Not stupidly big, great payload of 1200kg and very reliable and pokey engine.

I would recommend the Transit Custom SWB, great vans but they’re going for stupid money in the second hand market at the moment.
If you’re buying nearly new/used and taking finance, beware of inflated interest rates, garages will try to sell you HP at upwards of 8%, much cheaper way would be to get a personal loan which  can be had for under 3% depending on your financial situation.
Buying new,  Ford offer 0% finance with a 30% deposit, just make sure if you do go down this route that the dealership is still applying a generous discount (Ford discount as well as a dealership discount) It may be worth asking what would be their best price for buying outright and buying with 0% interest.

You can still make older vans look very nice. Find a clean one, give it a good polish, throw some alloy wheel and some nice graphics on it and away you go.
