2 monthly cleans after lockdown
« on: May 31, 2020, 12:01:51 am »
Ok so when the lockdown started I stopped work for 7 weeks, rightly or wrongly
Now I'm back at work all my customers are texting asking for a clean
Problem is although most jobs are monthly, I have fair proportion of  2monthly cleans, they're nicely divided up half one month half the next month
They all want me back ASAP so i'm having to do all the 2 monthly ones on the same cycle now, and meaning a very quiet month next month doing just the monthly ones,
I don't want to upset anyone by telling them to wait yet another month,  and risk losing them with uncertain times ahead
Anyone else had this problem? how are you dealing with it?
(I realise most of you didn't stop working so not affected)

This is the biggest change to our job that I think people will face the ones that clean monthly will be out to bi monthly, lots that have all their work on a 4 weekly or monthly basis will be out to 8 weekly or bi monthly just my opinion but I can see that happening soon.
All work overnight halved that’s why I’ve never done work on such a frequent basis, clean them when the windows are dirty they’ll be more pleased to see you.

We fitted in the 8 wk ones in weather or not they were due this cycle or next - yes it's a little lopsided but having staff helps on the busier days and for now I'll fill any quiet days with s/f/g work

It is a problem when it becomes out of sync - but I can probably re adjust over the Christmas shutdown  - and genuinely some 8 way have waited a further 5 weeks purely to stay on the original cycle

Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

adjusting at christmas seems like a good idea
and maybe stretching a few 2 monthly's to 2 1/2 months twice running, to get them back where they should be

I work on a monthly schedule, I have 2 monthly and 3 monthly . Exact same situation as you , I closed and now I’m running a month behind. I don’t have enough man hours to fit all my monthly & 2 monthly into 1 month and I can’t be arsed having to squeeze all that work into 1 month.
Not only that , further on in the year when the weather gets crap & darker earlier , I’d struggle to get it all finished .
I’m simply carrying on where I left off and everyone is a month late. Iv had a couple of txts asking where I am , I explained I closed because of coronavirus and now I’m running a month behind,  however ! (give them a bit of hope) I’m starting earlier , finishing later and working Saturdays to catch up - I will be with you ASAP

We went back this month managed to get all two monthly and three monthly work squeezed in had to work harder and work Saturdays to do it. Moved a school job to June and booked the larger new jobs to June as well and will hopefully
Make adjustments over the coming months to even it out again.  ;D

We work on a six weekly cycle. They’re our bread & butter. I make the 12 weeklys wait until it syncs in again. They’re not my priority.

this is what I have done also.  I have pushed for add ons which I will do next month.   if I enjoy it, and it goes well, I may push for add ons continuously.
before covid came, I was concentrating on just windows.

Nope.....your wrong nigel......this sort of thing doesn't happen often enough to even worry about!

I've been cleaning 4 weekly cleans most of the week and a lot of them have been dirty with bird muck on windows and frames and dusty!(due to the windy weather a week ago).....

Of course I have lots of longer frequency cleans too......

On topic I'm up to date....I'm not behind on any work at all...in fact I've not had a full week off this year yet(due to my cancelled holiday to greece).......

If I were you I'd just stick to your schedule as normal....7 weeks is a long time to have off....I might make the odd exception for a stand alone but not other blocks of work....surely it's only the odd customer requesting you to clean theirs out of sync with your normal schedule?
price higher/work harder!

I have 4 and 8 weekly but I don't work to a tight schedule.

I move things about all the time, as long as I have the amount of work on per day that's all that matters and as I'm always behind I'm never short of work one month and have loads the next. I like to have the same amount of work each day 4 days a week. This just means my round gets spread evenly if I'm flying I may be on target of 4 weeks if I've had days off then I'm going to be maybe up to 6 weeks.  All my customers are used to this and no one says anything they know I'm coming at some point.

I might have 30 jobs in area then next months just 10 but as long as I keep it in area order then it makes no odds.

For example

Area A 30 jobs
B 40 jobs
C 20 jobs
D 15 jobs

Then

Area A 20 jobs
B 10 jobs
C 30 jobs
D 15 jobs

So sometimes area A may take 3 days or 5 or whatever but it doesnt matter I just do whatevers due in that area before starting the next so it's irrelevant.

I prioritise my 4 weekly, the 8s get shifted to to the nearest 4 weekly cycle in that area if that makes sense so if they have to wait 12 weeks then so be it.

(I realise most of you didn't stop working so not affected)

We didn’t have any time off at all so our rounds aren’t affected.

But, if I were you I’d just contact every customer and say that you’re back to work but running a bit behind schedule and you’ll get to them ASAP. I’m sure everyone will understand.

I've decided to do all my customers including 8 weeklies on the same round, which means we have far too much work to do, and next month will be quiet.  That being said, i think its a small price to pay considering we are in the middle of a pandemic.  I will just have to do a re shuffle of work before winter.  When things calm down i will move customers back round, probably ask them to wait another 4 weeks so instead of 8 week it will be 12 weeks until there following clean.  That will fix the issue.  Will probably do that end of summer maybe going into winter.

Not ideal, but hey ho thats life.

You sound like you’ve got a good relationship with you’re customers Daz similar to myself, the thing is as I’ve said in the past if you don’t have this as they say personal touch people will drop you or put you back without a second thought.
