18 year old and a van……
« on: July 24, 2022, 12:38:32 pm »
Hi Guys,

One of my employees has expressed an interest in going out on his own.

He will be 18 with less than a years driving experience.

I’m getting prices of around £4500-£5500 for small vans and even CD vans.

Apart from having him as the main named driver and the policy in my name is there anything I can do?

TIA

Am I missing something? Why are you assisting an employee to go on his own?

Because 1 person per van is by FAR the most efficient and profitable configuration.

(I think he means still as an employee, just not with another team member)

My employee is 22, and getting insurance on the van cost approx £130 per month.

Annoying, but more than offset by the extra profit from lone working.

I franchise and employ :) but this would be him working alone instead of in a two man team.

If you find something let me know - we couldn't get anything for under 21 Y.O (well that was cheaper than a new van  ::)roll )

it can still be painful for those under 25 - depends a lot on the van size and tank you have

Tried transit connect
Ford Fiesta van
Ford Fiesta - using barrels

All coming out at over 5K!

I would need to seriously look at the profit on sending him out alone as 5K is a lot. I’m sure it would be worth it.

You will both have to wait until he’s 21
